I discovered #qucs-s recently. At Qt6 based gui front end for simulating electric circuits with #ngspice. It appears to be a rewrite of qucs but with support for spice-compatible component libraries. Some clever and very useful #FOSS. The wikipedia page for circuit simulators says it does not include #Linux in the list of supported OS, and sure I had to build it with a good ole ./configure but it seems to run on my Ubuntu 24.04 LTS laptop just fine. #hamRadio #AmatuerRadio #NotAllRussians

I passed my Standard exam on Monday night and the #ACMA confirmed my #callsign this morning: vk3spm

I got some questions on tiktok about what data rates the weak signal #hamradio #amatuerRadio modes like #wspr and #ft8 support. So I made this video in case it is interesting. Keep in mind my audience is people that are not skilled radio operators, consters, or even licensed users.

#SOTA Meetup at #Hamvention! What a great crowd!

I'm usually here for the #amatuerRadio content, but I think Legos aren't too far from our hobby. This is my first #lego set in 30yrs, a fact which might have blown my 10yr old son's brain. This is the winning boat from the 37th #AmericasCupSailing which is the #AC75 class of #hydrofoil flying sailboats #EmiratesNewZealand

I found this 10' section of 1.5" galvanized pipe which is almost a perfect fit for the 1 3/8 top rail to slide into. I'm gonna slide the first 10' of my rail into this and that way I only have around 9' of just top rail sticking up out the top. This stuff is much more solid than the top rail.

This plus adding some guy lines should make my antenna mast rock solid.

I tuned in to the local 2m group last night in Moorabbin using #gnuSDR and a cheap rtl2832 dongle. The repeater is 2.7km away in a straight line. In the photo you can see the antenna perched to obtain line of sight to the repeater. I created the SDR receiver using a basic FM setup using 8kHz deviation and 50dB of RF gain and with a FFT display to look nice (the photo does not show the carrier active). I logged 8 or 9 call signs. #AmatuerRadio #MDRC

For this week's #hamchallenge : My primary logging software is #Wavelog. The webserver and backend database both run on virtualized machines in a #HighAvailability #Proxmox #cluster (same one that hosts this instance!). Those are backed up daily to another machine on site via PBS, then those backups are synced to a remote server running in a house in another city.

In addition, my log is also synced to both #QRZ and #LOTW every 6 hours or so, but I didn't think it qualifies as a true backup, since there is some data which those logs don't record.

I had a great #pota activation this afternoon at US-10658, people started crowding, lots of fishing and water sports. I had to relocate due to clouds of insects and lots of sap blowing from the tree I was under. I also had forgotten to activate the boom mic on my #canon90d, so all I have are photos. I also hit over 1k QSOs and got my #pota Kilo award. #AmatuerRadio #CW #FieldRadio #morsecode @LnRPrecision #mtr3bv4 #TPIII @warteschleife

Also, for all those #MorseCode kids working up the nerve to get on the #AmatuerRadio bands with the CW Mode, @profoundlynerdy and i had a conversation that I think would be helpful for anyone learning morse code:

I've suddenly started receiving #QSL emails from QSL world. I've never heard of it before yesterday, but I've received about a dozen emails from them since then.

When I go to the website, I don't actually see anything on site about a QSL service, though. The only content appears to be an "AI" program that will plot your QSOs on a map.

Anyone familiar with their QSL service?

So I did a thing. I’m now KØMVH/AG for a few days!

Onward to Extra!

I told my wife, and she is happy for me, but I think the #hamradio peeps might understand my excitement more. I used 10m, SSB mode, my IC-7300 on 100w, and an end fed random wire draped over the top of my house and I talked to Japan 3x and Chile once from Idaho. That is 9775km away for Chile. All thanks to #amatuerRadio so exciting! tiktok.com/t/ZP8YGeJeB/

Soldering a 3.5mm connector for a foot pedal on my HF rig that I can use to trigger voice on my headset. This will allow me to operate a bit more hands free!

#HamRadioWorkbench's most recent episode is all about #44net and #ARDC. https://www.hamradioworkbench.com/podcast

44net is devoted solely to amateur radio use. Radio amateurs use 44net networks to set up radio-based networks using packet radio, 802.11 (Wi-Fi), and other technologies on amateur radio frequencies to exchange data using IP protocols. Local and regional radio networks are interconnected over the internet using a mesh network of tunnels between gateway systems.

Finally found the charger for my #btech #DMR 6x2 and got the firmware updated to v2.20!

Unfortunately, my backup #codeplug image included everything except the TG list, for some reason. The result is that every channel is now broken until I can reassemble the TG list exactly as it was before.

Question is, do I try to just rebuild the TG list to salvage the existing codeplug, or should I just start over entirely from scratch? The previous codeplug was based on one I got from another ham years ago and I kept modifying over time; I'm not sure if all the repeaters are up to date, anyway, and it's honestly a bit of a mess at this point... On the other hand, building a new code plug is such a massive time sink and I haven't used the #radio in over a year anyway, is it even with the effort?

I'm considering starting an ARC with some local hams. Does anyone have any tips for starting off, or "gotchas" to watch out for?
