it was the most noisy performance in a while, also one of the longest + plus a little speech/rant about the fascist normalization in the noise scene. i wrote plenty on the matter in the MAKE NOISE story and elsewhere. here's a bit of research by @varisverkosto, i recommend the whole series (even though it mostly focuses on rock music.). as long as people do not clearly and effectively distance themselves from these structures/individuals, but keep hoping to profit from them, they are normalizing fascism (and all the sub-chategories it contains: misogyny, white supremacy ...)

Here's the second release of THE SORE BIRDS ARE COLD HERE with 6 tracks of the same 'sessions' as the previous release (totstellen-grmmsk.bandcamp.com/album/rathill-pt-1). This time with slightly shorter tracks of experimental drone / field-recording assemblages. Recordings of reclaimed spaces, shelters, transitional zones and 'new homes lost'. Swallows nesting in flooded bunkers. City dwelling crows building nests from anti-bird spikes. Wasps building hives inside sheds from material they chew of the outer walls of the same structure. Clusters of material, repurposed, stolen, salvaged, reclaimed, re-assembled. Building another new home from the avalanche of debris pushed around for ages. It is all leaking, no matter how many layers we patch together. Between the construction noise, we even hear some melodies here and there, when the drones become less static and start to move around in the vast container spaces.
We hope you like our sonic explorations, as much as we did.
Keep moving. Find homes. Tear down borders. Give shelter.
white translucent C90 tape in white backed standard case. the tape has a hand stamped sticker and has a blank B-side full of magnetic potential. the cover is a black and white laser print with fragments of a found wasp nest, that was already destroyed glued to it. the standard stock paper has the number of the copy and edition rubber-stamped on it's rear-flap. STOCHASTIC ASYMMETRY - for eruptive harsh noise assault patterns
The STOCHASTIC ASYMMETRY is a machine to generate glitched-out eruptive noise assault patterns. it is a signal generator for those who are interested in exploring the harsher spectrum of experimental noise making. STOCHASTIC ASYMMETRY can be the base battery for any anti-fascist noise resistance set-up and running it through a chain of manipulating EFX will lead to massive sonic results. Simply put… 5 square wave oscillators of which 2 are LFOs generate complex waveforms which are getting further effected by a starve control, a distortion and a resonant low pass filter.
Of course nothing really is simple, so here are more details:
WAVING:
Each of the 3 square wave oscillators has a FREQUENCY potentiometer for controling pitch, a RANGE toggle switch to select 2 different frequency ranges, a MODE toggle switch that enables latch or trigger mode and a TRIGGER button switch, as well as a orange indicator LED. In trigger mode, the oscillator is mixed into the signal only momentary as long as the trigger is depressed. But be aware, the machine has a non-linear response in the trigger section and sometimes an oscillator raises it’s voice even when you did not engage it with the trigger, that is part of the fun and it can get less out of control depending on the starve setting. when the oscillator’s LED is on it’s LED is on and it might or might not switch off when you repress the trigger, but as said, this function is highly stochastic and i have not been able to predict it (a lesson for control freaks!). All three oscillators have different ranges, higher on the left and lowering towards the right. A MIX toggle switch selects linear or non linear mixing, the non-linear mixing is a bit more uneven and noisy.
MODULATING:
Each of the 2 LFOs has a SPEED control and similar to the other oscillators a MODE toggle switch and when in trigger mode the LFO can be activated temporally, which is most interesting when running in higher speeds for tremolo-like effects or high pitch noise assaults in the highest setting.
SOUNDSHAPING:
the signal generated with oscillators with or without LFOs is shaped by two more controls, which are highly depending on other setting on the machine, so they as well, do not have a fully linear response. the EDGE control works like a distortion, that adds more sharp edges to the waveform, resulting in ‘higher harmonics’, while the CURVE control acts like a resonant low pass filter that rounds off the already very 'edgy’ squarewave forms and it has slight self-resonance. Both of these controls are as such not affected by the power-starve function, but works differently the more the oscillator section is starved. With very much starving (STARVE counterclockwise) the CURVE control can generate almost electro-acoustic sounding crunch and hiss for example (see demovideo). Of course there is also a VOLUME control that lets you tame the output level.
STARVING:
The STARVE control regulates the power that is accessible to the IC that is used for the 5 oscillators and when one turns it down (CCW) the different oscillators start to get more stochastic in their functions so the generated waveform becomes more noisy. Turning STARVE counterclockwise also has a global scale effect, it lowers the pitch of the three oscillators and the speed of the LFOs, but at the same time it also introduces high pitched noises and clicks. Similar to the other trigger functions on this machine there is also a POWER toggle switch, that is either in latch mode or activates the power trigger mode, which interacts with the STARVE function. When starve is up (CW) the decay time of the oscillators using up the available power is faster, while when STARVE is low the decay is longer, while the oscillators get less power in total.
CONNECTING:
STOCHASTIC ASYMMETRY runs on 12V DC (positive inside/negative outside, 2.1mm standard socket) and unless otherwise communicated it ships with a suitable recycled PSU with euro-plug. The audio output is a standard 6.3mm mono instrument jack socket, but beware that due to the special enclosures it might not work with angled plugs.
The first batch of STOCHASTIC ASYMMETRY is build into enclosures found in an abandoned car repair shop in turku. Originally they were some kind of 'black box’ engine data-read-out ports and are now painted with the 'industrial burn-out’ camo pattern in chrome and black. Handmade by GRM for METSÄÄN.

after the previously released split-tape of THERE ARE NO BIRDS HERE and COLDSORE on TOTES FORMAT a few years back, we decided to collaborate under the new guise of THE SORE BIRDS ARE COLD HERE. we have done so on and off for about a year in a very relaxed anti-work manner, with zero stress about productivity, since we like work to be play.
unfortunately very delayed due to a breakdown of the over 2 decades old CD-burner from extreme frost exposure in the TOTES FORMAT storage facility (a woodshed) we are happy to present you this first release of our new project.
after a new burner was assembled from scraps, it was possible to make the first batch of 25 mini-CDrs in hand printed covers made from recycled frozen pizza boxes. this CDr contains one long-form drone / field-recording assemblage, that is based on actions of trespassing and reclaiming zones, that once were commons and have now fallen into the greedy hands of those considered to be in power over our existence in the world (on the land). this is an ode to broken down fences, busted doors, cracked locks, ladders traversing walls and acts of tunneling free.

this was the last recording made in my last lost home. the cover is a picture of a found post-war map of berlin, that had a lot of blanks, which i stained with soot raising from a piece of burning juniper tree root from sápmi/laplad. the map was pasted to my ceiling to keep the insulating sawdust and mouse shit from raining down on me. the place i was born in - germany - is also the cradle of war in so called europe. ever since fueling the fires with it's ceaseless mass production of weapons of war. some of these tanks are manned by fascist grey wolves destroying land and people in kurdistan in an imperial ottoman expansion, while other german tanks roll up against a rusisct invasion in ukraine, claiming to cleanse it's territorial claim from fascism, while nothing else can be said the russian state itself. we are mostly collateral damage of the crossfire of propaganda so delicate and subtle we hardly sense it when it passes us through. post truth paradoxxig turns some of US into 'war boys', others into 'crazies' and many just die. all this, while the general colonial destruction of land and people goes on uninterrupted since centuries all over the world, in all the places we rarely look at and where the color of peoples skin is different, than what is constructed as white. we chose to ignore their ongoing resistance, unless it is served to us in massive PR campaigns and hence we fetishize them. we dwell in the privilege of consuming the cruel harvests of resources, that our encapsulating systems feed us. extracted without mercy or regard of the misery, grief and death it causes, we don't taste the bitterness, when we drink from the blood chalice of this death-cult everyday. call it capitalism, call it white supremacy, call it fascism, call it patriarchy - we must destroy the seed of the imperial beast that is EVERY state, the best way to do that is from within.

as expected the so called discussion on the matter brought up by me and other vectors in the finnish scene & 'punk in finland' forum is dominated by ignorant trolls who pretend to have a discussion, while pushing aspa+co's releases in the same forum in other threads. it is a farce, but i expected nothing less of this place. clearly these discussions need to be held in other places and must be followed by consequences instead of another long phase of silence. more labels and venues need to be confronted with what kind of affiliations they platform and by that help to get another step closer into the accepted realm of culture and politics. it seems like when just a few singular voices are bringing such these topics, it is just ignored and when these voices do not even speak the local tongue, the 'outside agitator'/tourist stamp is easily applied and the hope for the un-disrupted business as usual seems to dominate. this all does not only apply to the PE / harsh noise genre, but also the psychodelic spectrum in which for example crypto fascist anti-semites are welcomed contributors. in times of raising fascism on national (the finnish government might become a coalition of conservative capitalists with the fascist PS party) and global level, we need to attack the creeping plague on all levels in our lives. Compared to the previous parts of this series, this one is rather quiet and melancholic - a sombre mixture of drum'n'drone with a few environmental recordings including those of acoustic instruments played in oppressive urban spaces for donations and a processed guitar recording of my friend P., that has been written during the eviction and destruction of the Hambacher Wald in favor of the ever expanding motorway network, a clear invitation to the fossil-fuel/rare-earth guzzling automobile culture to persist and by that continue to destroy this earth. I myself have tried for many years to defend some of the last remaining patches of forests and it’s inhabitants against these motorway expansions, that not only slice the habitats of wildlife into tiny pieces, but that are also the veins that pump the toxic sludge of capitalist trade, extraction and exploitation into the most remote places.
