I'm sick and tired of queer groups being so forcibly defanged. I understand that not every queer group needs to be a radical militant group, but I hate it when we're forced not to be
At my high school I was co-president of the GSA and we were forced into liberal nondisruptive niceties, and here at college the queer community has been subject of some hate crimes, and the school has taken a half-assed stance at responding to it and the leadership here encouraged/commanded us to not take any counter-action.
We aren't gonna be your pretty, civil, token queer group, that you appease with half-hearted attempts at inclusivity and diversity
I think the encouraging us not to respond was not what the leadership wanted to say, but we don't wanna risk getting forcibly disbanded by administration.
To quote one of my friends who works for campus life for queer stuff "We have to be mild to avoid [name of university]'s boot on our necks"
