The figure's brain and nerves branching out thru the body are rendered in shimmering gold ink. Underneath that are many layers of light bright blue electrical signals, zig-zagging upward to their nerves. As the nerves get further from the brain, they are met by dark purple angles, pinching together and attacking the nerves and body. There are a half dozen in the arms, and in the lower abdomen, the legs have closer to a dozen each. The angles in these sites evoke almost butterflies, fleas, or some other attacking insect. The memo section at the top of the bookmark says in the light blue electricity ink the caption.

the figure's back is to us on a manila bookmark. their body is mostly purple and magenta, angular with intentionally scribbly shading. Their spine is visible, in gold shimmering ink and outlined in thin teal. There are 6 icicles stabbed into the spine between the bones, criss-crossing each other and not symmetrically organized. At the top of the paper are more icicles, and snow falls around the figure.

So in love with this piece! I've been playing with 3d art for a few months and it has been a great new challenge to take on. I've loved learning more about anatomy and ways to show the beauty of the human body in interesting ways.

Bleeding Vessel (2022) For Twitter: An embroidery of a uterus, including Fallopian tubes and ovaries, stitched in black thread on white linen textured like a woodcut. Inside the uterus, the endometrium is thickly stitched in bright red and burgundy. There is a large fibroid on the top of the uterus and a smaller fibroid on the right lower side, both beaded in red, pink, and cream beads. A cyst on the right ovary is beaded in clear, purple, and red beads, and a small section of dark red and purple beads is a polyp inside the uterus. Long burgundy strings hang from the bottom of the uterus with red beads on them that extend past the vaginal opening.

An embroidery of a uterus stitched in black thread on white linen with texture like a woodcut. The mesometrium spreads like wings, the ovaries are ovals on the mesometrium, and the fimbriae on the ends of the fallopian tubes look like sea anemones. Inside the uterus, the edges of the endometrium are stitched in bright red thread with long and short stitch in a textured leaf pattern. The centre endometrium is filled with the same texture but in burgundy with thinner thread. The edges between the burgundy and the bright red are filled with single strand satin stitch with curlicue edges. There is an apple-sized half circle fibroid on the left upper area of the uterus and a strawberry sized one on the right lower side. Both fibroids are made of red, pink, and cream beads of various sizes. Another strawberry sized section of clear, purple, and red beads is a cyst over the right ovary, and a small section of dark red and purple beads are a polyp inside the endometrium. There are long burgundy strings hanging from the bottom of the endometrium with medium and large red beads on them that extended past the vaginal opening. The initials L. P. are stitched in white on the right side of the image.

I have finished my #liver #embroidery! Title: tethered by fluid & ligaments. Stitched from 20 June 2022 to 5 June 2023. Width 21”/53.5 cm, Height 15”/38 cm. Silk organza, cotton and synthetic threads, glass and agate beads on linen.

A red & purple organza liver basted onto grey linen. The biliary system with all its branches between the two layers of organza is filled with a bilious green. There are small yellow beads on the biliary system inside the smaller lobe. There are white beads sewn on the narrow end of the top organza liver. An arched T shape filled with tight crisscrossing stitches in thick off-white thread separates the large & small lobes of the liver and curves over the top. There are various blocks of text stitched in light grey single strand thread around the image.They read: What roots grow in us. Branch through our landscapes. In love plexuses. a curvature borne. between what is held & what must be held carefully. fleshy beasts tethered. By fluid and ligaments. Such a gentle embrace. Beneath our skin. Here is the thing I broke & then repaired with brightness. Laid open. The spells it holds. A language spoken. Between boughs & flesh. this golden ingot. This tailed beast. And its viscous song. What a miracle these spaces within us. Are what make us whole. What offertory our bodies. The proper invocation of flesh. Placed on the ground. Hosts on tongues. Fleshy language. Each thing precious in its own decay.

An image of an old engraving of a vagus nerve is printed on sulky material and basted to green cotton in a huge wooden embroidery hoop. Some stitching of one of the nerve lines has been done in blue chain stitch in perlé cotton. Lia's hand can be seen next to the stitching holding a tambour hook.
