utilize two distinct survival strategies—stealth and manipulation—to drive a "stealth-first" mechanism where resistance genes are initially acquired by stealthy plasmids before being rapidly disseminated by manipulative ones.

Powerful new #antibiotic that can kill #superbugs discovered in #soil #bacteria
Surprise discovery could pave the way for new treatments against #drugresistant #infections.
They discovered an intermediate compound — called premethylenomycin C lactone — whose #antimicrobial activity was 100 times stronger than that of the final product. Tiny doses killed strains of bacteria known to cause hard-to-treat infections.

Abstract
A post-antibiotic world is fast becoming a reality, given the rapid emergence of pathogens that are resistant to current drugs. Therefore, there is an urgent need to discover new classes of potent antimicrobial agents with novel modes of action. Cannabis sativa is an herbaceous plant that has been used for millennia for medicinal and recreational purposes. Its bioactivity is largely due to a class of compounds known as cannabinoids. Recently, these natural products and their analogs have been screened for their antimicrobial properties, in the quest to discover new anti-infective agents. This paper seeks to review the research to date on cannabinoids in this context, including an analysis of structure-activity relationships. It is hoped that it will stimulate further interest in this important issue. https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/32668669/

Antimicrobial activity of ampicillin
Ampicillin has a fairly wide spectrum of antimicrobial action: many gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria are sensitive to it. Actively affects: strains of staphylococcus sensitive to penicillin; streptococcus and pneumococcus, although all are less sensitive to ampicillin than to benzylpenicillin.
