Here in the Canadian prairies, earlier this evening the Aboriginal Peoples Television Network (APTN) was showing Star Wars (1977) dubbed in (I believe) Cree.
It was pretty great. And I have to say, the elder/actor that they used to dub Obi-Wan Kenobi was fantastic. He sounded perfect for a Jedi who has Seen Things for a long, long time.

In Canada, the histories of residential school survivors are being challenged by a surge of denialism. Dismantling Denialism confronts those attempts to rewrite history — and explores what it will take to defend truth and reconciliation.

I kind of think that all the non-Allistics are sort of the same, the Neolithic people are the Indigenous people are the “Autistics,” all lack or recently lacked the genes for Allism - so I think (as many white savour assholes do), I think I’m one of this grouping which includes the Indigenous in my mind, and I think with this post I am fighting for, “us,” against Allistic, “history,” which is part of their propaganda war on the world.
.
I know, no-one is going to allow me this, and I know this from my own family, if I’m an enemy everything I just said is the worst, and here I am, God’s fool, thinking I’m a friend.
.
If you think I’m an enemy, then I’m sorry for all of it. 💜

Got some #APTN on, and it’s not my place to say, but when the Turtle Islanders talk about themselves as warriors, I prefer not to agree that it was the pre-contact state of things. I mean, there are the central and south american warrior nightmares, but the story of the Columbian critique says life wasn’t constant war further north.
.
I would prefer to think the raiding and the conflict and wars happened after the Euros arrived and hasn’t this already been shown elsewhere, like Africa? Unfortunately, Allistic genocide and cultural erasure has power, and the life before it became all
inter-human conflict on Turtle Island has been buried, and the only history that exists is theirs, conflict, so all many of us know of Turlte Island history is the Aztecs and the wild west. Peace registers as “nothing,” to the moderns, “undiscovered,” violent history.
.
I’m a dreamer, it’s my superpower.
.
So I’m a white man, telling Turtle Islanders who they are, where they’re from, that’s not the intended context, and I’m sorry if that’s what you feel from me, it’s meant to be that I’m an Autistic, telling Allistics and everyone in this Allistic world a less Allistic version of history.

(OK, that’s a bit of an oscillation, innit 😬💜)
A comedy about a young, Innu, single mother, living in Nunavut, and learning who and what she is in the world with the help of her small town on the shore of the Arctic Ocean.
I cannot imagine how that pitch went with Netflix, but they partnered with the Aboriginal Peoples Television Network and #CBC, and the result is great.
It’s heartwarming, realistic, culturally sensitive without being cloying (there’s no sense of ‘look at these kooky Northerners!’ here), genuinely funny, and well made.
The performances are solid from everyone (even the Elders), the writing is darned good, and both the cinematography and direction are great.
It’s renewed for more episodes.
Really recommended.

100% this. #kinew and co. also couldn't be bothered to respond to #aptn directly when asked for comment...which is especially cowardly and unprofessional, as they are #indigenous leaders not responding to an indigenous network.

After weeks of criticism from #FirstNations leaders, the federal government has amended its major projects bill to withdraw the power it gave cabinet to sidestep the #IndianAct.
The #Liberal government’s controversial legislation, which would allow cabinet to quickly grant federal approvals for big industrial projects like mines, ports and pipelines, sailed through committee in the early hours of Thursday.
Ah, Beautiful Scars coming up on #APTN 💜

Hey fans of ‘North of North’!
To celebrate the announcement of the show’s renewal for season two, CBC has put together a compilation of season one’s funniest moments.
(If you haven’t yet caught the show on CBC Gem or Netflix, now would be a good time. :packetcat_wink: )

Here’s another feature (this time from Netflix itself) on the importance of authenticity in production design of North of North.

Fashion in ‘North of North’ has generated a lot of comment in social media.
I’ve noticed that many of these come with assumptions about what women would be wearing in Inuit communities, and a lack of understanding of the importance of sustainable design in Inuit culture.
CBC has a great feature with interviews with the show’s creators on the point.
‘The show's emphasis on slow fashion ran counter to a film industry that often operates on a quicker schedule.
"Nothing here is mass-made," Aglok MacDonald said. "So it really is going out to independent artists who are just crafting a few things here and there and seeing if they could put in a bulk order."’
