Just talked with #DisabilityServices at Colorado Christian University. They’re encouraging me to use #MicrosoftWord instead of #LaTeX for schoolwork, since Word has built-in dictation that could help when my #RheumatoidArthritis flares up and typing gets hard.

To other #Blind folks: how do you remember all of Word’s keyboard shortcuts? I swear I spend more time navigating the ribbon than actually writing. I stick with LaTeX because I can remember commands better than shortcuts.

They said Word’s dictation is accessible, so I’m giving it a shot. But I’m also wondering: what reference managers do you use? I’ve been using #Zotero since it works with #VSCode and LaTeX, but I don’t know how well it integrates with Word — and definitely not with #PowerPoint. My school has me doing a lot of #APA-style presentations lately.

Would love tips from anyone juggling accessibility, citations, and academic workflows.

Tara E. Galovski, PhD and Yael I. Nillni, PhD

Little is known about the effects of ongoing trauma in Veterans living in areas of high crime and violence. To better understand this, Congress urged the National Center for PTSD to study the effects of neighborhoods and other social determinants of health on Veterans with PTSD. In response, the National Center for PTSD’s Women’s Health Sciences Division initiated the Longitudinal Investigation of Gender, Health and Trauma (LIGHT) study. This Research Quarterly reviews the aims and current progress of the LIGHT study including key scientific findings to date.

Veterans and PTSD Treatment: “It made me feel more alive”

PTSD treatment can improve your symptoms and your well-being. A recent study asked 60 Veterans to talk about their experience with PTSD treatment. The Veterans completed a trauma-focused therapy (either Prolonged Exposure or Cognitive Processing Therapy). Men and women Veterans of different racial groups were included and all got therapy in a VA facility. Veterans told researchers that their PTSD symptoms improved—such as not feeling “on guard” as often or having fewer trauma nightmares. They also felt their daily life improved. Examples included feeling more joy, being more confident at work or school, having better relationships, and enjoying hobbies and social activities more. One Veteran said, “It made me feel more alive…. This is awesome.”
