Gaius, Caesar's grandson, eldest son of his daughter Julia and Marcus Vipsanius Agrippa. Presumptive heir, along with his younger brother, Lucius. He died, aged 24, eighteen months after his younger brother, obliging Augustus to reframe the succession.

Today's photo with the most hits: a colourised section of the frieze on the Ara Pacis. It depicts members of the Imperial Family processing to the inauguration of the monument.

The tall veiled figure is identified as Agrippa, the woman in the purple stola, Julia. Also visible, Tiberius; Drusus and Antonia with Germanicus.

Emperor Augustus (27 BCE – 14 CE) accomplished much during his time on the Roman throne, far more than many of his successors. According to historian Mary Beard in her book SPQR, he transformed the structures of Roman Empire, including its politics and army as well as the appearance of the city itself.
