Landscape-orientation photo of the open-air station platform for the BART train in Dublin, California. The roof overhang and the platform surface both form visual triangles at the top and bottom of the image, as they recede towards a signal post standing at the center. Other symmetrical geometric patterns are formed by the beams and rows of parallel lines on the underside of the overhang, as well as the variously configured tiles on the platform, which are predominantly in yellow and reddish brown. Freeway traffic flows on either side of the platform. A line of low mountains sits at the horizon. The vivid blue sky is streaked with white cirrus clouds and washed in golden light at left frame by the afternoon sun.

Man leaves his mark on the territory he inhabits, inscribing the traces of his occupation in the landscape. Vernacular elements of our landscapes, witnesses of the past, revealing the present, or bearing the passage of time, they reflect the social, economic, and political situation of those who live there. This photographic series, initiated in 2011, shows this, constituting a "portrait of place", personal and subjective. The "portrait of place" of today’s France. From here and now.

Crow-stepped gables, fleche and cupola of Pollokshaws Burgh Hall on the southside of Glasgow. Designed by Robert Rowand Anderson in the Scots Renaissance style and it was constructed in the 1890s. It reproduces a variety of details from now-lost Old College buildings on High Street (the original home to Glasgow University), including the square cupola on top of the tower.

Windowstravaganza!

I’ve been looking at this for so long that I can’t tell if it’s too much, but I like the dagger-shaped space in the middle. More info in the alt text.

Closeup of a group of buildings on the north side of 42nd Street in Manhattan, across from Bryant Park. The image is predominantly teal and white. In the foreground at right is the Grace Building with its distinctive curved, upward-swooping facade and grid of long horizontal windows. Immediately next to it is the business center Two Bryant Park: we see its side-wall of plain vertical panels bordered by a multi-floor column of wide glass windows, which wrap around to the street-facing facade paneled entirely with reflective glass. In the background at left is the grid of windows of the Bank of America Tower, which rises out of frame. The reflections in the buildings’ many glass panels result in a multiplicity of windows, including those of other buildings across the street. Notably, the curved edge of the Grace Building and some of the other buildings’ vertical lines form an outline suggestive of a long narrow dagger, which descends to its point at bottom frame. A bit of blue sky can be glimpsed at the top.

Not too sure what these guys were doing on the roof of the Hydro in Glasgow today, I'm just glad it wasn't me - not just because it's been the hottest day of the year so far, but also because the very thought of it sets off my vertigo!

Another of the rather wonderful decorative sculptures on the western range of Glasgow University's main buildings, dating from the 1920s.
