Hardware and #Ardour works under windows so this is most propably a linux issue.

To my fellow Linux Musicians:

TOPIC: Audio drop-outs when using ADAT in 3gen Scarlett.

I have the Focusrite Scarlet 18i20 3gen and the alsa-scarlett-gui from Geoffrey Bennett.

So far so good.

BUT:

If i route several hardware inserts using the ADAT outs via Ferrofish A16 (to use my outboard gear when mixing) i get some serious dropouts.

Tested with Alsa and Jack. But i'm not very firm with the Jack settings.

I had a similar issue in windows and had to adjust the ADAT mode in the control software.

Anyone here who uses the ADAT of the 18i20, had audio dropouts AND solved the issue?

Had a dumb idea a week or two ago, and today I learned enough #Ardour to slap together this abomination.

Does anybody record vocals/ microphones in #Ardour directly? Or are people using something else and import?

I can't get anything to sound as good as into, say, #audacity before cleaning, then slapping some reverb on.

But getting a click track working in audacity isn't great.

So, continuing with #USBmidi on #OSX #Monterey. Now that I have found which of my #USB #MIDI devices works electrically, it turns out #Ardour can access this interface successfully.

However, I am having trouble using the MIDI interface with #DecentSampler (standalone) or #Carla (my favorite standalone plugin host on all OSses).

Both Decent Sampler and Carla don't offer a device selection for MIDI devices.

So my #MacOS problem melts down to a) an electronics problem with cheap MIDI interfaces not being opto-coupled as they should be, even endangering the USB-C ports of the MacBook Pro 2017, and b) Certain pieces of software not having a MIDI settings dialog, or there is some mechanism that I don't know yet.

@falktx – do you perhaps have a quick hint on how to get MIDI input into Carla on OSX?

This was my first decent, proper go at @ardour on #UbuntuStudio
...its just a dirge of effected guitar jamming through the Line 6 Helix. Now what is weird is how the Helix isnt class compliant (as far as I know) ..which means someone with the UbStu developers is using the Helix.

Anyway, nearly 7 minutes of me making a fool of myself on the Palm Bay.

Me estaba planteando editar un audio y un video en el PC Linux. Y ha sido abrir Ardour y decidir hacerlo en el Mac.

Necesité instrucciones para entenderme con Logic y las necesitaré para #Ardour.

I just finished producing another #cyberpunk soundtrack in the #ardour #daw which I might use in my upcoming #opensource game (Ghostrunner inspired). Everything was made only on #Linux and with the help of open-source tools (LSP Plugins and Vitalium). I think it turned out pretty nice, but I'd be happy to receive some feedback anyways. There might still be something to improve.

I use #Ardour for producing all my tracks, #Carla for testing and experimenting with plugins, #SurgeXT & #NoiseMaker as synths, various stuff by brummer10 (#guitarix, ratatouille, ...) and #NAM and #Aida for guitars, #LSP plugins for IRs and samplers etc. #x42plugins for EQ and MIDI processing, #Cardinal for sound design & a lot more #FLOSS tools and plugins.

Expanding the scope of the question, I use #FAUST and #DPF for writing my own plugins and use them in a lot of my tracks.

Setup is now made of FOSS and alternative tuning.

Slowly switching to #ardour.

Working into implementing visuals for my future show.

@lislegaard My favorite FOSS would be Ardour. I use it for recording, mixing and "mastering". I put mastering between quotes because it's basically just a compressor and a limiter on the master bus in my case. I use Ardour with a lot of plugins, LSP and x42 are in my favorites list. This runs on Debian, I consider that also one of my favorite FOSS.
