A conflict that continues today is, "What REALLY is the name of this Oklahoma landmark; Gloss or Glass Mountains?"
In 1873, the name Glass Mountains appeared on a map issued by the Federal General Land Office. Two years later, the same office issued another map calling them the Gloss Mountains. Perhaps the 2nd draftsman misread an A for an O?

Here's another of these fantastic Dalí watercolors. I'm sure there's a lot that I'm missing in his other works with the elephants and giraffes and weird mash-ups, but I prefer these watercolors. It's still well strange with the snake breaking into reality from a different dimension, maybe bringing Eve's apple with it, & the North African or Middle Eastern figures seem dignified and righteous in the abstract watercolor landscape

Survival in a barren land
The straight lines of vegetation are caused by cracks in the underlying rock which is usually about 5cm below the soil surface.
The plants grow above the cracks because there is more soil and more water in the cracks.
