On the Mango Pi Pro, I popped out the sd card running #Ununtu server with #LXDE and put in a different sd card with the “official” #Armbian ISO with #XFCE from the Mango Pi website.

After way too long finagling the keyboard, mouse, and power inputs, I have updated the packages on the OS (#Jammy). Tomorrow I will update to #Noble and go from there.

Also I will test sound output tomorrow as I trim the fat of preinstalled programs/apps.

Since I started to use the #debian kernel instead of an #armbian legacy kernel on my #RockPro64 I had a few crashes. Most of them seemed to have been related to #sata, because they stopped after I exchanged the sata pcie with another one of the same type.

I had another #oops afterwards and decided I should look for a #watchdog to reboot the system in case of trouble.

After reading a bit about watchdogd the most simple solution I found is:

root@TEST:~# cat /etc/cron.d/watchdog 
@reboot   root wdctl -s 180 
* * * * * root echo "1" > /dev/watchdog

I'm testing it on a non-productive board and it seems to be good. It works for a forced oops echo c > /dev/sysrq-trigger and if I stop cron.

But it doesn't work in the state after a simple halt: the system tries to start and hangs after showing the first line of u-boot output.

I think the last #armbian trunk release contains my most contributions at once yet. Five in total 🙌

Hmm, it could be something like that! I can't reproduce the grey background on this particular computer (#Armbian #bookworm #PinebookPro), but I'll try running env - nvim when I'm back on the other machine.

Делаем медиа сервер из Orange Pi Zero 3

В этой статье мы установим всё необходимое для работы Orange Pi Zero 3 в роли медиа сервера DLNA с Transmission. При этом система будет запускаться с жесткого диска, а для установки нам не потребуется подключать к Orange Pi клавиатуру либо дисплей. Купив Orange Pi Zero 3, я первым делом полез в интернеты искать гайд для установки нужной мне системы, но везде натыкался на гайды где все операции проводят подключая Orange Pi Zero 3 (далее апельсин) к дисплею через Micro-HDMI (которого у меня не было) и набирая все команды через клавиатуру. В общем мне показалось это глупым, а главное мне было лень покупать и ждать пока придет Micro-HDMI, поэтому я нашел способ установить всё через ssh и здесь детально его распишу.

Well, I have one other laptop running debian, and a laptop running Debian-based #Armbian, so I'm sure I'll be on Debian 13 at some point.

As far as my work machine, well, I've invested a good chunk of time getting it to work well, and configured the way I like it, so I'm not in a hurry to jump ship to another distro. I technically have until October (thanks, microsnot!) to replace windows on my coworker's machine, so I might wait and see how Debian 13 shapes up. I'm sure it'll be mostly perfect.

I guess I need to come up with a list of pros and cons for staying with Debian. For me, the software starts getting really outdated after a release is a year old. I do wish they'd switch to a yearly release (that'd be perfect, honestly), but I do understand that it's a proper, true community-run effort, and that would about double the workload.

У каждого конечно свои приоритеты в плане ПО, но для меня очень важна комфортная работа в консоли. Начиная от использования простых утилит и заканчивая Vim и MidnightCommander. Знаю, что многие так и не освоили Vim (страшно-непонятно-неудобно-ааа!), а MC вообще путают с NC и DOS - не стану никого переубеждать. Это для меня компьютер, не для них, ведь так?

#armbian auf meinem #pinebookpro läuft nun in der Version Debian bookworm (12) XFCE einwandfrei. Sogar der nextcloud client liess sich mit meinem Server verbinden und synchronisiert schön. Leider gibt es ein Problem mit dem synaptic package manager. "Reload" geht, "Mark" aller Updates geht, aber bei "Apply" wird beim Download jeder einzelnen Datei ein "Failed" gemeldet.
Lasse ich ein Download script erstellen und führe das dann hinterher aus, werden alle Dateien problemlos herunter geladen.🤔
