This morning we woke up to the Wolfs Moon. The first full moon after Newyear. The moon was incredibly bright, and in the end you could still see it until almost 11 o'clock. It is -24 °C outside. We only walked to the small shop to get some groceries we still needed. Part of it had to go under our jackets to make sure it wouldn´t deepfreeze.

The meeting with Jonathan yesterday was very good, we are both very excited about how things are proceeding. We are still brainstorming and have to solve practical details.

[I am currently an artist in residence at Ricklundgården in Saxnäs, Sweden where I will create a conceptual meal ("Arctic Meal") together with the local chef Jonathan Johansson representing how much the North is affected by the climate crisis].

A full moon rises over a frozen, snow-covered lake in a winter landscape. Bare tree branches frame the scene on both sides, with dark evergreen forests and distant snow-capped mountains under a pale blue twilight sky.

Second storm passed. Yesterday storm "Anna" passed over the North. We had 20 cm of snow, apparently further South it snowed up to 60 cm. Two storms following each other in such a short time is very unusual. This is one of the doors of the builing where we are staying. From the inside!

Today I will meet the local chef Jonathan to discuss the further steps for my climate change menu.

The storm has calmed down. From what we learned many regions in Sweden, Norway and Finland have been affected. Around 40.000 Swedish households without electricity. Now the cold ist slowly arriving. Stay save!

Back in the North.
We are back in Saxnäs (Sweden) in a small artist residency called Ricklundgården in Västerbotten. I have been here before, the last time to talk to the local people about their experiences and observations regarding the winter and if/how it is changing. The last days have been very strange - several temperature changes hit the area, it went 5 degrees plus, the snow melted, you had water on top of the frozen lake but last night the cold came back. Accompanied by a storm.

The picture you see was taken when we just arrived.

My current project will deal with the changes that are linked to the the climate crisis: I will cooperate with a local chef and create a conceptual menu (ARCTIC MEAL) representing how changing temperatures are altering cultivation, cooking, reindeer herding, fishing and culture itself in the North/Arctic. For this project I will be posting more frequently than before.

Artist / Art Educator in Residence in Kooperation mit exploring visual cultures (EVC)

In Kooperation mit dem kunstpädagogischen Netzwerkprojekt exploring visual cultures (EVC) fand im September das erste Artist / Art Educator in Residence Programm an der Pädagogischen Hochschule Weingarten statt. Eine Woche lang arbeiteten Studierende der Pädagogischen Hochschule Weingarten mit der südafrikanischen Künstlerin Mellaney Roberts im Rahmen des Artist and Art Educator in Residence-Programms zum Thema „Call and Response - Art Beyond Borders“.

Im Mittelpunkt stand die künstlerische Auseinandersetzung mit Erinnerung, Sprache und kultureller Identität - umgesetzt im Medium Ton.
Die Teilnehmenden erarbeiteten in intensiver Atelierarbeit keramische Werke, die persönliche Erinnerungen und Geschichten sichtbar machen. Dabei diente ein selbst gewähltes Wort oder Satzfragment als Ausgangspunkt für eine individuelle gestalterische Antwort - eine künstlerische „Response“.
Den Abschluss bildete eine Ausstellung im Audienzsaal, die zahlreiche Besucher :innen anzog. Präsentiert wurden authentische, emotionale Werke, die Vielfalt sichtbar machten.

Mellaney Roberts an die Studierenden: “Your clay works are not just objects; they are bridges - between past and present, between self and community, and between all of us here.”

Was alle Beiträge verband, war der gemeinsame Gedanke, dass Kunst Beziehungen stiften und Grenzen überwinden kann – zwischen Kulturen, Generationen und Erfahrungen.

Arctic tableware.
On our way North to our Finnish project I am taking the chance to already prepare another project which is scheduled for January 2026. In Finland and Sweden the opportunities to visit the legendary loppis/kirppis (stationary flea marktes) are endless and so much fun. For my project in January I need tableware with an Arctic design and the Finnish designers sure delivered! So the plan is to stop at every loppis/kirppis we pass and check if I can find something. In January I will realize a conceptual meal dealing with the question how much the climate crisis is affecting the North (ARCTIC MEAL). It will take place during an artist residency at Ricklundgården in Northern Sweden.
