                  ASHBURTON, This Day.
  Ronald #Dalton, a prefect at the #Ashburton Technical School who was journeying by train from his village home at #Hinds, picked up from the carriage floor a fat wallet. He went twice through the train, inquiring if anybody had lost it. A business man, feeling his pockets, discovered his wallet missing. It contained about £100 [ca. $12,400 today]. Dalton stubbornly declined a reward, but the owner declares he will hear from him at Christmas.

ASHBURTON, This Day.
Rhoderick M‘Rae (15), of Methven, and William Henry Fagan (17), of Springburn, were charged at Court today with wilfully damaging the Coleridge #transmission line at Mount Hutt.
Mr. Buchanan, who appeared for Fagan, pleaded guilty and said the Act provided for a penalty of £500 [ca. $62,400 today], plus cost of damage. This line ran through tussock country, sparsely inhabited by people uninitiated in the ways of #electricity. Neither boy realised he was doing harm when he created a short circuit by throwing up pieces of wire… to see sparks fly. Their action plunged #Ashburton in darkness for six hours, and caused damage to the head works. When arrested, the #boys told the constable that if pieces of wire fell near the poles they would have climbed up and removed them. Such a course…would have instantly killed them…
…the damage amounted to £100 [ca. $12,500].
The Magistrate said he would treat severely future cases. In the present case the law did not allow birching. Each boy was fined £2 [ca. $250] and costs £3 18s 5d [ca. $490].

These #Camellia are a little smaller than the many larger flowering heads that are blooming at the moment throughout #melbourne.

But are no less impressive.

#EuryopsPectinatus is often used as an urban garden plant, given their flowering periods are epic.

They grows best in full sun and well-drained deep soils. It’s not frost resistant unfortunately… and I read with interest every part of this plant is poisonous.

Also, this is not just one flower, but a composite of a number of tiny flowers which make up the yellow disc in the middle (ie their 'disc floret').

Love the bursts of yellow… makes me feel good to view such simple, yet complex beauty.

Up at silly o’clock this morning for kids football.

Walking to the ground, we see some kind of ash, oak or maple variant (I know they’re everywhere in this suburb with their reds, oranges, yellows and greens!).

This one’s branches are covered with a bright green #moss, which appears to be a permanent feature in this little Gully reserve, adjoining a waterway not far away.

Its #autumn leaves 🍁 🍂 are gorgeous.
