I'm finally done with on location work for today!
Just got home a few minutes ago. Warming up some chicken vegetable soup. Working on some files tonight 🙂

Me, wearing a camouflage hat, sequined mask over N95 mask & a Palestine scarf, holding a large glass of jar fig jam in my left hand & a jar of apple juice, above my head with right hand. I am standing in a commercial kitchen with jars of apple juice on a stainless steel work surface in the foreground, boxes of jar lids labeled "BERNARDIN" behind them, and a clock on the wall. The hat says "AnarchoSocialist" in yellow.

I just got the agenda for upcoming #AsiaInVictoria #Summit. I'm excited to attend this #cultural #community conference!

I'm definitely taking part in the grant writing & fund development workshop. I haven't decided on the other workshops to take.

Maybe I will meet someone who speaks Teochew too! That would be so wonderful.

Good morning 🌄
I slept in & Mom made some #CanhChuaCá 😊
It is a #Vietnamese #SourFishSoup. Mom's been making this traditional comfort dish since her childhood years. In South #Vietnam she used mostly catfish because that's the main river fish that her brothers caught, back in her village life times.

Mom used cod for this - we don't get much catfish here. We love adding lots of #okra & #beansprouts. There's celery & pineapple underneath the bean sprouts, not visible.

This #SourSoup dish originated from the #MekongDelta & is a popular entree across #SouthVietnam. Canh Chua literally translates to sour soup - this is the #fish version. We have a chicken version that we make too.

Enjoying some #RedBeanPaste #pastries & a cup of #OolongTea. I don't like overly sweet snacks. These red bean paste desserts have slight sweetness, far from overpowering sweet taste. I got these ones from Fairway Market.

I'm working from home for part of today. I have 2 client check up appointments in the late afternoon. Both appointments are less than 15 minutes drive away👍

Two halved, golden-brown baked buns with red bean filling sit in a clear plastic container, beside a red mug holding a tea bag, on a beige plaid tablecloth. The buns are cut open to reveal layers of dough and dark red filling. The tea bag is visible in the mug with water.

I made some comforting & healthy #lotus #root + #gingko #nuts #soup for #breakfast. 😊

In #Teochew / #Chinese cultures, #symbolism includes foods we eat too.
Lotus roots signify abundance. Gingko signifies longevity.

This recipe is similar to our homestyle version (we don't use written recipes at home):

Close-up shot of a white bowl filled with a soup-like broth, showcasing large pieces of light-brown lotus root, and light-yellow ginkgo nuts. The lotus root slices feature multiple holes and a light brown hue, indicating they've been cooked, with a few visible specks on some pieces. The broth appears clear and slightly opaque, and a white spoon rests partially within the bowl.

Three random Asian movies/series notes from my Mom:

- They have so many series based on police & lawyers being heroes. *she makes a puke face, saying that*

- Do you notice they enjoy having abused/mistreated women kill their jerk bfs/husbands/bosses? I think it's because many Asian men are still threatened by feminism. *she smirks & then laughs*

- They really love food & eating. There's a focus on food in almost every movie/series. I love seeing foods being included in almost all Asian shows. *she grins*

A neighbour, who recently revamped their gardens, gave me 2 #free sets of #SolarLights & I put one set around our crabapple tree in front yard, with our large golden Buddha statue. It looks awesome, lit up at night 🙂

Egg, chicken & #ramen soup - a hearty #AsianBreakfast to fuel me up.
I'm starting on my homework/soil studies again, after eating a filling hot breakfast, half an orange & having some oolong tea.

#EsquimaltGorgePark. At #JapaneseGardens.
You'll see stone lanterns in many Asian gardens & lining pathways & entrances of Buddhist temples. They have a long history.

History of stone lanterns:

#StoneLanterns have been known in #China as early as the Han dynasty (202 BCE–220 CE), and prevailed from the Wei, Jin, Southern and Northern Dynasties all the way up to the Tang Dynasty, when they were introduced to #Japan. The earliest known extant stone lantern in China is the Northern Qi (550-577) stone lantern in the remains of Tongzi Temple in Taiyuan, Shanxi. Other early stone lanterns which date from the Tang Dynasty (618-907) remain extant in several temples around China, such as the stone lantern in Faxing Temple in Zhangzi, Shanxi which was built in 773.

A sepia-toned image of a Japanese stone lantern standing in a garden setting, surrounded by various foliage. The lantern, the primary subject, is made of rough, gray stone, composed of several stacked, rectangular and rounded pieces. Its central section features a square opening, visible through which a glimpse of greenery can be seen. The background consists of a dense arrangement of plants and flowers. Fern-like foliage surrounds the lantern. Behind the lantern, a backdrop of blooming flowers adds to the garden aesthetic. The lighting in the photograph suggests a warm, natural environment.

A young child looks at a cake with sparklers held by their mother in an indoor shot. The cake is baked in a clear glass dish, topped with strawberries and lit by multiple candles. The child has long blondish brown hair and is wearing a long-sleeved shirt, and is looking up at the sparklers with excitement. The mother, wearing a red and white striped shirt, is looking down with a smile at her child. They are sitting at a checkered tablecloth, with a calendar on the wall.
