Oudste cruiseschip ter wereld kopen? De Astoria, met gitzwart verleden, komt onder de hamer

Een bijzondere veiling in de Rotterdamse rechtbank volgende week: wie een paar ton heeft liggen kan eigenaar worden van de Astoria, het oudste cruiseschip ter wereld. De oceaanstomer heeft een indrukwekkend verleden. In 1956 was ze betrokken bij een van de meest dodelijke maritieme rampen uit de geschiedenis.

Astoria, NYC’s famous Wild Turkey, flying into her roost—right in front of her namesake, the Waldorf-Astoria!

Her busy Park Avenue address came with its dangers, so does her current home: Battery Park. I hope she finds a safer spot soon, maybe even a mate. It seems spring fever has drawn her away from Roosevelt Island in search of love.
