The Week That Broke Us 😮‍💨 | 10 Observatories in 10 Weeks – Week 9

Week 9 was supposed to be the home stretch… but instead it hit like a brick.
This was the week of every tiny, annoying, fiddly job that had been waiting for attention — and the week we dove headfirst into the most soul-destroying task of all: rubbering the observatories.

Hours of cold, sticky, repetitive misery.
Monotonous. Dreary. Painful.
A true test of patience, sanity, and lower-back durability.

Rubbering meant pushing 12 mm round rubber into the small cavity of the 40×40 aluminium — inch by inch, joint by joint, across every single observatory. It was tedious, physically brutal, and somehow both infuriating and necessary.

But we pushed through. Bit by bit, joint by joint, we knocked down the last of the little tasks and inched the entire site toward completion.

It wasn’t glamorous. It wasn’t fun.
But it was necessary — and it brought us one week closer to the finish line.

Blown Away 💨 | 10 Observatories in 10 Weeks – Week 8

Week 8 came in swinging — and the wind did not hold back.
The marquee? Gone.
The tents? Nearly airborne.
John? Almost lost his dirty dishes to the gale.

Between hanging onto everything that wasn’t bolted down and trying to keep our sanity, we still managed to get the last two roofs on and tick off nearly all the fiddly bits that had been holding us up.

It was chaos, comedy, and construction all rolled into one windy finale.
Only two weeks left — and the observatory field is finally starting to look ready for the stars.

Observatory Overdrive 🚀 | Week 7

Two more roll-off roof observatories, drills, ladders, late nights, and two perfect moonless skies — then a roaring windstorm. The field is finally taking shape: stars above, chaos below.

The Great T-Nut Shortage 🪛 | 10 Observatories in 10 Weeks – Week 6

Week 6 at Starview Farm was pure build chaos — we cranked out the last four base frames, clad them, and finally got roofs on the four observatories that had been waiting way too long for cover.

It was all going smoothly… until we hit The Great T-Nut Shortage of 2025.
Progress screeched, bolts dangled, and we questioned every hardware store within a 100 km radius.

Between clear, moonless nights and endless steel connector plates, we somehow kept the momentum going — proving once again that sleep is optional, but T-Nuts are not.

🚀 Just deployed my Astro site on DigitalOcean!

Static builds fly on App Platform’s CDN, and SSR works cleanly with the Node adapter. Modern stack, smooth DX, and global performance in minutes. 🌍✨

I've been looking into astro.build and it looks like a cool project, but there's something that's just a bit shady.

- It seems to be open source. (yay)
- The home page is covered in marketing which makes it hard to separate hype from reality. (confusing)
- There are sponsors and merchandise clearly featured on the webpage. (funding questions)
- The CLI collects telemetry data by default (creepy)

What's the deal with Astro? Is it going to enshitify eventually?

In #AstroJs #AstroBuild, is there a way to generate a menu from all pages automatically?

New problem with the blog. Build errors, likely it‘s the dependencies- happens when I update anything. I love astro but I‘m so tired of this. Can’t use my website because of this and have no time to be researching in depth, it’s frustrating. I‘m considering to switch to something easier that doesn’t cost me extra. But what? Maybe a static site with no framework plus a free bearblog or something. Ideas or suggestions are more than welcome 🙏

Konečně jsem se dokopal smazat původní web a začít něco nového 😊
Prošel jsem si základy a udělal si mock-up nových webovek.
Momentálně mám hrubou kostru, můžu psát blog v . Ještě bych se rád dostal k nějaké lehké integraci Owncastu, ale to pro mě bude trochu vyšší dívčí. Jo a poslední dobou si fakt užívám barvičky 😅

How, as #WebDev illiterate, do I start converting my #Grav theme to #AstroBuild?

Our first #OpenSource release since our company was legally constituted. Not a big deal, but sort of a milestone :D.

Hi, any astro.build users here ? I am wondering if it is possible to have dynamic imports in an Image component. It seems to work in dev but not in build 🤔

Just worked on a complicated component in @astro ... getting it all working as a "component" with all kinds of external js and CSS and just dropped it in to my main page and it all just worked -- and the CSS stayed isolated, and no JS errors. It's freaking magic! Thank you #astro #astrobuild #madewithastro

Just updated my site (zander.wtf) to @astro v3. There were quite a few things I had to change, but overall a fairly smooth upgrade path. Beyond the migration docs (docs.astro.build/en/guides/upg), the import aliases docs (docs.astro.build/en/guides/ali) were mostly what I needed to tweak. #astro #astrobuild

The commit for my changes is here: github.com/mrmartineau/zander.

My "tech stack" :
1) #appwrite for back end
2) #astrobuild for node app
3) #replit for IDE
4) #github for storage
5) #shoelace shoelace.style for widgets
6) #svelte for any magic
7) #kaboomjs for game views
8) #opengameart for art assets
9) #kennynl kenney.nl/ for more assets
10) #nightcafe for some special art

#gamedev #denweaver

I'm comparing my current dev environment ( #replit #astrobuild #appwrite #kaboomjs ) with an older world ( #visualstudio ) and it's like night and day. The first I can run anywhere via the browser. The other takes up 8GiB on my machine.
