I just finished the book *Star Bound*. It's a great introduction to the history of the American space program. It's non-technical and aimed at laymen. If you think rockets are cool & can read a book with no pictures, then you're smart enough to read it. It's humorous, but its humor never gets in the way.

I'd definitely recommend it to anyone who thinks it looks interesting.

SpaceX could lose contract for Artemis 3 astronaut moon-landing mission, acting NASA chief says: 'The problem is, they're behind'

Speaking as someone who doesn't lose their mind whenever Elon Musk is involved, I think this is a good thing. Not only are they behind, but a **lot** has changed since the contract was awarded too.

Space enthusiasts aren't very enthusiastic right now. Many of them believe China will be the first to return to the Moon in 2027. But don't forget, the space race started when the USSR beat the USA to orbit.

#spaceengine #space1999 #astronomy #astronautics

Generic (English) — Astronaut
NASA — Astronaut
Roscosmos — Cosmonaut
CNSA — Taikonaut
ISRO — Vyomanaut

Officially, ESA uses astronaut, but what would you call them? Wiktionary.org lists spationaut.

They follow a pattern of a space-related word truncated to 2 syllables followed by the suffix "-naut".

It's important that the word (or some variation of it) is understood and pronounceable by as many EU citizens as possible.

Some good aerospace news for you. I don't know the theoretical impact a hypersonic space plane would have, but it sounds very cool.

I've been reading Robert Zubrin's *The New World on Mars*, and it's great thus far. It details how we could settle Mars and why we must.

He's been teasing a Phobian skyhook, and I can't wait to read about it.

He has another book, titled *The Case for Mars*, which describes a practical, near-term plan for manned exploration of Mars. I might read that next.
