Sometimes, I need an atheist support group. My religious trauma hitting me pretty hard lately. I’m feeling sick of hearing grandiose ideas about spirituality, and some greater purpose. There is nothing wrong with normal. If they want to know the meaning of life, why can’t we try biology?

When I criticize #Religion from now on I’m adding an #Athiest hashtag to give people a clue that I don’t want to be proselytized about some other religion they think is better. This is doubly true as #Queer person. A good majority of us left religion and have no intention of going back and it doesn’t matter how inclusive you say your religion is. Good for that religion for being inclusive but that still is a hard no for me.

The public testimony on the anti trans bill (#HB148 ) in NH this morning was great.

If you want to watch it it’s the first one in this stream and it goes right up until they take a break for lunch. If you hear him talk about recessing it it’s just so he can postpone the other 3 they were going to hear this morning.

The only two objections I remember I remember them because I laughed out loud. The first one was an older woman saying that we needed to go back to the way it was because it was totally fine that way (for white cis people, the only people who matter I guess), and another woman who was ranting about how she lives in fear every day that she’ll see a man in the bathroom. Then there was a man who spoke in support of the bill and requested that we regulate cis heterosexual men because they are the real danger to women.

There was a pastor and an employment attorney who spoke on behalf of herself and her firm, the support was pretty overwhelming even though there were plenty who opposed.

(Also this is the link for the freedom of religion bill #HB620 being heard at 1:45 and I’m really excited to watch that one because initially I was excited about this bill but after reading some of the opposition I’m thinking I almost got tricked. An #athiest organization submitted a multiple page letter explaining that the group that’s pushing this isn’t about religious freedom at all.)

There is need for argument, to strengthen your positions, to persuade others, to be persuaded from bad positions.

Sometimes when people disagree it can feel like it’s a personal attack… lots of ideology attaches itself to your identity. Religion and politics want to “get them while they’re young”. The longer ideology is in you the harder it is to extract.
