BREAKING: Ipsos news rankings for March are out today, and Guardian Australia is the 4th most read news site in Australia. That’s our record-equalling highest ever position. Thanks so much to the 8.7 MILLION Australians who read Guardian Australia in March!

That’s 1.2m more Australians than in February, and the highest audience month on record for Guardian Australia since Ipsos Iris launched in January 2023. Nobody has left or entered the Top10. GdnAus has overtaken 7News and Daily Mail, but the ranking order is otherwise identical. ABC News stays No1 with 13.3m readers, newscomau 2nd with 12.4m and Nine 3rd with 10.9m

Outside of the Top10, Courier-Mail had a very big month with Cyclone Alfred coverage to rise from 19th to 13th in the rankings. The West Australian and Daily Telegraph return to the Top20, while The Nightly drops out. A very big month of news with every listing in the Top20 (other than BBC) seeing month-on-month growth.

For context, GdnAus and SMH are pretty much constantly jockeying for No6 & 7 rankings. This is a ‘record-equalling’ highest ever ranking for GdnAus because we were ranked 4th (under Nielsen rankings) in March 2020.

Australia's Top 20 news website rankings for February are out this morning. Big thanks to the 7.5 million Australians who read Guardian Australia last month 🙌

ABC News held No1 with 12.4m readers, with newscomau 2nd with 12.2m

GdnAus dropped -430k readers, but still held 6th spot 652k readers clear of SMH on 6.88m. Despite a small audience drop, Age overtook BBC to jump into Top 10. Keep in mind the month was 3 days (-10%) shorter as well!

Elsewhere in the Top20, The Australian jumped two spots in the table to 12th, overtaking NYTimes, while Forbes dropped 5 spots to 18th and SkyNewsOz was down two spots to 17th.

NIH weirdly reappears at 13th with a huge 810k readers added in Feb, but maybe the big news is The Nightly making their first ever appearance in the Top 20.

CourierMail are also back in Top20 for the first time since Oct last year, with DailyTele & Fox Sports dropping out

I might add that I am particularly pleased to see Guardian Australia's attention time (average minutes per person) up at 20mins here, which is the highest it's been since Oct/Nov last year, but would put us at 4th if you sorted the Top20 on that measure.

#BREAKING NEWS: It's the Top 20 news website rankings in Australia for January! Massive thank you to the 7.96 MILLION Australians who read Guardian Australia last month 🙌👏

ABC surged back to No1 with +731k readers to reach 12.48m, as newscomau dropped to No2 on 11.76m after losing -413k readers in the month. Guardian Australia added +651k readers to hold 6th 💪 with 7.96m, 1.25m readers ahead of SMH at No7, who dropped -266k readers in January. And only 200k readers behind 7News in 5th! That's normally about a 2m audience gap.

DailyMail added +936k readers in January, on top of their +1.1m in December, to now be ranked No4, and up an astonishing 2m readers since they recorded 6.6m readers in November. That Nov measure had them 650k readers behind Guardian Australia and below us in the rankings at No7.

Huge months for SBS and BBC, with both adding more than 800k users in January to take top10 spots at the expense of The Age and NY Times. All NewsCorp properties in the Top20 lost audience, with newscomau -413k, The Australian -279k, SkyNewsOz -169k, Herald Sun -222k and DailyTele -377k

@vogelbeere We're facilitators of their museum experience, not dictators. If we aren't intrinsic to their lives, society can allow museums to crumble into ruins like the Roman Coliseum. We become useless waste of space and resources. Obsolete. We must be good listeners and have empathy and compassion for all the different types of audiences in our communities. One way is through evaluation, another through programs. The threat is real #museums #accessibility #audiencedevelopment

I’m thinking about audiences a lot at the moment. My particular lens is through arts based practice but wider across the board. There’s so little questioning and so much assumption. I wrote this about how we’re talking to audiences post Covid medium.com/@mslaura_brown/how-
