A planning application has been submitted for a 9km active travel route between #Aviemore and #Carrbridge, designed for #walking, #cycling, and #wheeling. The route will provide a safer, more direct connection and integrate with existing local routes. Following public feedback, the plans include a signalised crossing of the A95 at #Granish. #Scottish Government Cabinet Secretary Fiona Hyslop highlighted the commitment to promoting active travel in #Scotland, emphasising the collaboration with Cairngorms National Park Authority, The #Highland Council, and Sustrans. The route will offer safer, accessible travel for all ages and enable circular trips between Aviemore, Carrbridge, and Boat of Garten using the Speyside Way.

Carr Bridge to Aviemore with Moray yesterday. A mix of forest roads and bike trails, and some moorland. Including a short section on a black bike route 😮

We started off following the route of General Wade's military road, then found a track that wasn't on the map which took us over the higher ground, before dropping into the woods above High Burnside.

A vehicle track through open woodland. The ground is heather and blaeberry, the trees are fairly mature Scots pine. Moray the dog is stood looking ahead. An open bit of heathery and grassy ground, with a thick forest plantation in the middle distance. In the distance the tops of the high Cairngorms are just visible with a sparse coating of snow. Blue sky and patchy clouds. Moray the dog stood looking back at me.A stream crossing a gravel forest road. There is woodland beyond, enclosed by deer fencing. Moray the dog is stood in the water looking back at me.Looking across heather moorland. There are some mature Scots pines, and also some younger ones regenerating. Blue sky, patchy clouds.

On top of a hill, the ground is rocky but covered in snow. There are snow covered hills in the distance. Blue sky with wispy clouds. Moray the dog and I are stood facing the camera, I am wrapped up well against the cold.Moray the dog and me sat just below a summit cairn of stones, on a grassy and rocky hill. I am wearing a red short sleeved shirt, baseball cap, and sunglasses. There is a ridge of hills at the back. "Right, that's me away to the shops - teabags, milk, rolls, and I'll not forget the washing-up liquid, see you in four hours darling" #snow #huskies #sledge #huskyrally #aviemore

Huskies pulling a sledge in snow during a husky rally near Aviemore in Scotland, there is a man on the sledge controlling the dogs, the dogs are really happy and excited as they don't get to run in snow very often due to climate change.

Waterfalls of Craigellachie, Aviemore. Heavy rain caused these waterfalls to form that were visible from the town, so I sent Bubo the Drone up to find them. 😀 #scotland #drone #aviemore #dji #highlands #waterfall

A sunny day sandwiched between two stormy days, so a quick couple of hours morning walk with Moray up Craigellachie, the Nature Reserve and hill behind Aviemore. A mixture of summer and autumn - heather and harebell still flowering, the bracken and rowan beries are well into autumn, but everything else is also beginning to turn now.

Close up of ground vegetation, grasses and heather which has finished flowering, with the bronze coloured dead flower stalks of bog asphodel.Close up of several tufts of deer grass, the stalks are green giving way to yellow then bronze.A couple of moss and lichen covered boulders at the front, with a rowan tree behind with lots of red berries. The ground slopes up to the left, covered in bracken which is turning brown, and trunks of birch trees are visible.Moray the dog stood next to a small stone cairn. In the background are a couple of lochans in a valley with fields and darker areas of forest.

Hanging around the Cairngorms this morning, look who we found hanging about too:

#Cairngorm #Cairngorms #Aviemore #Scotland #Reindeer #Deer

A square photo of a small herd of reindeer grazing on some grass beside a bit of gravel road, in front of a hill. There are 8 reindeer, 7 brown and 1 white. The vegetation is in late-summer / early autumn colours: browny green but still quite a lot of plants about. The hill is on the edge of a ski centre so some ski infrastructure is in the background. There are also two grey stone drainage passages just behind the reindeer.

An old, rusted metal fence post surrounded by overgrown vegetation, with some wooden fencing attached. Various plants and weeds are visible in the foreground.

The Aviemore Stone Circle in a suburban enclave in the village of Aviemore in the Cairngorms- this is from a free years ago. If my memory is correct the tree is a rowan. #StandingStoneSunday #Scotland #Cairngorms #Aviemore #Neolithic #StoneCircle
A low stone circle in a manicured lawn beside suburban homes. The sky is mild and not quite blue, and a large rowan grows at the periphery. It has just begun to leaf.

2 day trek with overnight camp with Moray this past weekend.

to over the high ground of the , National Park, . Still hot and sunny at times, so lots of stops for rests and rehydration.

Lots of ups and downs, lots of peat bog and groughs, but some easy walking on great short vegetation.

Looking out of a tent doorway onto a grassy hillside, my trouser legs and boots visible. Moray the dog is sat outside, next to my rucksack and a camping stove boiling water.Moray the dog wearing his panniers, sat next to a small cairn on a hillside, the vegetation is short. More gentle hills into the distance.Selfie of me and Moray the dog, sat next to a cairn on a hillside with some rocks.Sit club. Moray the dog wearing his panniers sat next to my trouser legs and boots. We're on a grassy hillside whish rises gently into the distance.

Back near #Aviemore again this evening. The #cairngorm #mountains and sky are looking very dramatic!
#scotland #clouds

A very monochrome and high contrast view of the Cairngorm mountains taken at dusk. The foreground is almost black and features silhouetted trees, behind that are several snow-covered mountains. The sky is very moody with dark clouds.

Another of our favourite local walks with Moray today. Through Craigellachie (the National Nature Reserve), up to Craigellachie (the hill), then down to the Burma Road and back via the old old A9 Perth to Inverness road.

, National Park Scotland.

Looking through a birch woodland, no leaves on the trees yet. Moray the dog is stood on a mossy rock in the foreground, looking at the camera. A lochan is just about visible through the trees. Blue sky.Looking down from a heathery and rocky hilltop, at a town in the valley, more hills beyond. Blue sky with wispy clouds. Moray the dog is stood on a rocky slab at the front.A lochan between heathery hills, some grasses growing in the water. A fence running alongside then dipping into the water. Moray the dog sat looking at the lochan. Blue sky and blue lochan. An old road heading into the distance, grass growing over it, but a cats-eye in the foreground. Trees on both sides. Moray the dog stood looking back at me.

A black and white world for today's #StandingStoneSunday.

Aviemore 'Clava' cairn; the remains of a kerbed cairn (which likely had a central mound and chamber), surrounded by a free-standing stone circle. It's in a neat little suburban setting now, with glimpses of the Cairngorm mountains beyond.

This visit March 2011.

#Clava #Aviemore #BronzeAge #Cairngorms #StoneCircle

A standing stone in the right foreground, with a circular kerb of stones in the centre. The stones stand in deep snow today. Behind there are domestic hedges and rooftops. It's very grey and overcast, and all of the colour is gone.
