Lots of excitement here. Yesterday a researcher from U Waterloo installed 5 microclimate sensors in the boathouse/bathouse that has been home to a colony of little brown bats (myotis lucifugus) for decades. They are endangered in North America. The sensors will record the temperature every hour for one year. Hopefully the data will help scientists better understand these amazing creatures and ensure their survival. Mom thinks bats are super cute❤️ #BatsOfMastodon
Ha! 🦇 Just saw my first bat of the year!
Naturally, it flitted away too quickly for me to get a shot off. I have yet to successfully catch a live bat on cam. The one below is a wind sculpture.
Bats are always welcome on my timeline.
Just a reminder that bats of any and every ilk are always welcome on my timeline.
It was great to visit Austin again, for the 6th annual meeting of the International Research Training Group 2379 on Hybrid and Hierarchical Approaches in Modern Inverse Problems! The meeting took place at the Oden Institute at the University of Texas. The highlight of the non-scientific part was surely the canoe tour of the Lady Bird Lake, watching the bat extravaganza under the Congress Avenue bridge.
