Changing things up, we are checking out some Imperial Stout by
@samuelsmithsbrewery. Full disclosure we tried this before, but without looking at the bottle date, had a poor experience. So, this is a bit of do-over for us.
Out of the bottle, Imperial Stout produces a hefty amount of khaki-tan head, resting on a pool of darkness. Receding, there remains a crown of lacing inside the glass, resting on the surface.
Swirling and sniffing, we recover notes of dark fruit, dark chocolate, licorice, and freshly brewed coffee.
Sipping, many of those flavors (or flavours) carry over, along with notes of roasted malt, and a creamy finish. Overall, Imperial Stout has a medium - strong mouthfeel, very noticeable alcoholic warmth, and a slickness on the palate.
