Of all the composers of symphonies, #Beethoven is the best - a small number but all great. Of all of his symphonies, number 6 is the best, the #Pastorale. In that symphony, the fifth part, #Allegretto, is the best. And in that movement, there is a phrase near the end which is overwhelmingly the best five seconds of music in any symphony, at 7:29 in this version.
The Sixth's Allegretto combines the melody of a lullaby with the grandeur of a fanfare. It beats everything.
I'm working my way through a piano music book to teach myself about various styles.
Each time I play a piece by Beethoven, I enjoy the simple fluidity of the 3 note melodic interval chords. I suppose in his time waltz was king, but I have the feeling it meant something to him too.
The other thing I get is the sheer passion in his music. People are people now & then ! 😃

I always listen to Beethoven's symphonies while working on my US taxes. The beauty of the music helps alleviate the pain and frustration of dealing with a system that is so punishingly complicated for emigrants like me.
