Adventures in Blues is an album by the Stan Kenton Orchestra featuring compositions by Gene Roland recorded in late 1961 and released by Capitol Records in 1963.

The Allmusic review by Scott Yanow noted "This is one of the finer recordings by the Mellophonium Band, arguably Stan Kenton's last great orchestra. With the use of 20 horns, Roland was able to get a surprising amount of variety out of the material, making this a Kenton recording well worth investigating". On All About Jazz William Grim wrote "This may be the most swinging of all of Kenton's albums because the arrangements were done by Gene Roland, the most consistently swinging of all of the great arrangers who honed their talents writing for the Kenton juggernaut. ...Adventures in Blues is a great album and gives conclusive proof that when the music called for it, the Stan Kenton Orchestra could swing with the best of them". - Wikipedia

Count Basie Story is a double album by pianist, composer and bandleader Count Basie featuring tracks originally performed by his orchestra in the 1930s and 1940s rerecorded in 1960 as a celebration of its 25th anniversary and first released on the Roulette label.

AllMusic awarded the album 3½ stars and its review by Scott Yanow states, "These sides were hotly contested when originally issued because of the contrast in accents between the 1937 band and the later one. The sound is so different that it cannot be compared to the pure and bluesy dance band swing of the originals; it is amped up and brassy, with charts (written by Royal or Neal Hefti) that stress tempo and sophisticated ensemble playing rather than riff-based solos, busyness, and dynamics. For any serious Basie fan, these sides are essential" - Wikipedia

TV's Top Themes is an album by composer, arranger, and conductor Pete Rugolo featuring performances of theme music from popular television programs recorded in 1962 and released on the Mercury label.

Cashbox Magazine was ... upbeat in the review of the album that appeared in its May 26, 1962 issue:

Pete Rugolo’s latest outing for Mercury spotlights the themes from a host of video favorites presented in a highly listenable manner. The orchestra uses very effective arrangements to indicate the mood and flavor of the shows they represent and proves that each theme has its own musical merit. . . . There’s enough listening enjoyment here to attract a wide variety of record buyers. - Wikipedia

Kenton's West Side Story is an album by the Stan Kenton Orchestra recorded in 1961 and released by Capitol Records.

"Arranger Johnny Richards is responsible for the sometimes wild, sometimes mournful, but always interesting reading by the Kenton band of the "West Side Story" score. Kenton has assembled a huge orchestra to play the exciting music from the show and top-flight stereo recording make the listener's room jump with the life of the music. Naturally there are good doses of jazz in the set and some tine solo highlights by Kenton himself at piano. The excellence of the LP as a whole, effective use of stereo positioning, and release timed with showing of the "West Side" motion picture all should aid in sales of the album."

Claude Thornhill (August 10, 1908 – July 1, 1965)[1] was an American pianist, arranger, composer, and bandleader. He composed the jazz and pop standards "Snowfall" and "I Wish I Had You".

...In 1939, he founded the Claude Thornhill Orchestra. Polo was his lead clarinet player. Although the Thornhill band was a sophisticated dance band, it became known for its superior jazz musicians and for Thornhill's and Gil Evans's arrangements. The band played without vibrato, so that the timbres of the instruments could be better appreciated. Thornhill encouraged the musicians to develop cool-sounding tones. The band was popular with both musicians and the public. Miles Davis's Birth of the Cool nonet was modeled in part on Thornhill's sound and unconventional instrumentation. The band's most successful records were "Snowfall", "A Sunday Kind of Love", and "Love for Love". .. - Wikipedia

Studio Sessions 1957 & 1962 is the seventh volume of The Private Collection a series documenting recordings made by American pianist, composer and bandleader Duke Ellington for his personal collection which was first released on the LMR label in 1987 and later on the Saja label.

The Allmusic review by Scott Yanow awarded the album 4½ stars and stated "these sets allow one to hear Duke experimenting with his ensemble. Some selections were essentially works-in-progress that would develop within the next few years; others were quickly discarded originals or rearrangements of older tunes". - Wikipedia

Basle, 1969 (also released as Live on Tour Switzerland) is a big band jazz album recorded by the Thad Jones/Mel Lewis Jazz Orchestra in Basle (Basel), Switzerland for a Swiss radio broadcast. It was not released until 1996 – as Volume 4 of TCB Music's "Swiss Radio Days" series.

Swiss Radio Days Jazz Series, Vol. 4: Basle, 1969 Review by Scott Yanow

This live concert, broadcast over Swiss radio...features the Thad Jones/Mel Lewis Orchestra at its prime. The remarkable all-star group includes two first trumpeters (Snooky Young and Al Porcino) and such soloists as trumpeters Richard Williams, Danny Moore and Thad Jones, trombonist Jimmy Knepper, Jerome Richardson on soprano, Jerry Dodgion on flute and alto, baritonist Pepper Adams, pianist Roland Hanna, bassist Richard Davis and tenor great Joe Henderson whose short stint with the band was long enough to include this European tour.."

A Merry Christmas! is an album of Christmas music by the Stan Kenton Orchestra recorded in 1961 and released by Capitol Records.

The Allmusic review by Matt Collar noted A Merry Christmas is a polyphonic masterpiece that is at once progressive and traditional. ...Featuring Kenton's idiosyncratic style of arranging piercing trumpets over a wooly blanket of trombones and mellophones, this is beautiful, forward-thinking and angular music that addresses both complex classical harmony and Basie-style swing"

Under Analysis by the Sauter-Finegan Orchestra from 1957

The Sauter-Finegan Orchestra was an American swing jazz band popular in the 1950s.

The orchestra was led by Eddie Sauter and Bill Finegan, who were both experienced big band arrangers. Sauter played mellophone, trumpet, and drums, and had attended Columbia University and Juilliard; Finegan had studied at the Paris Conservatory. They began recording together in 1952, using inventive arrangements that made use of a variety of unusual instruments, including many orchestral instruments as well as oddities like the kazoo and the beaten human chest. In 1957 the 20 members of the band played 90 instruments, including flute, piccolo, oboe, English horn, bass clarinet, and harp.. - Wikipedia

The Sons Of Sauter Finegan by The Sons Of Sauter Finegan from 1955

In the 1955 album, Sons of Sauter-Finegan, thanks to RCA Victor A&R Jack Lewis, several of these gifted sidemen were gathered into small units and given ample solo space to express themselves in loose, “head” arrangements.

Everyone on the date was in fine form, particularly the brassmen. Trumpeters Bobby Nichols and Nick Travis display imagination, power and warmth, all conveyed with authority and technical mastery, and Sonny Russo confirmed that he was one of the best young jazz trombonists of the time. The rhythm section—Joe Venuto, on vibes and marimba, Bill Finegan on piano, Francis James, on bass, and Mousey Alexander on drums— also lived up to the standard of musicianship required.
