Currently watching #bladerunner2049 again. I watched it in the cinema as soon as it released, then immediately went and pre-ordered a copy for myself.
I loved it then, but it seems to get better with each viewing.
It also has a wonderful soundtrack.

GenAI has really made me rethink the relationship between K and Joi in Bladerunner 2049.
We know replicants are grown and made of the same stuff, more or less, as humans.
The technology behind Joi is not so well defined.
I used to think K and Joi had an authentic relationship as a way to show how artificial and obsessed with control the humans are. I overlooked K's melancholy and Joi's endless enthusiasm and excitement.
Reading about sycophantic GenAI girl/boyfriends and humans falling for them, however, makes me see K as someone who feels this is the only type of affection he deserves because he knows he's not human. Joi may act and think as if it is real, but we can assume she doesn't have a choice. Because to K, no one would ever choose him.
Joi still does things that indicate she can think for herself such as hiring a prostitute to be her body double but it's all in service of K. It doesn't seem like she can think about her own needs.
I don't know. There's a lot going on in Bladerunner 2049.

It was time to explore new stories that could be told in the Blade Runner universe, which hadn’t seen another film since the original was released. Fans have the same reactions to sequels nowadays. They either want as much of something as they can possibly get, or they want studios to relax and stop making so many sequels, reboots and spin-offs. When Blade Runner 2049 was announced, it was a mixed bag of reactions, but the one thing that people seemed to agree on was that it was in good hands with Denis Villeneuve attached to direct. Still, no one could have known how great the film would be, and it has, in fact, remained a great sci-fi hit many years later, having a lasting impact that people could not have foreseen.
Blade Runner 2049 Works as Its Own Story and as a Sequel

He’s right to believe that some things should just be left alone. Nonetheless, he does agree to get involved if the script is good and the material is in the right hands. However, returning to Blade Runner meant having a different role as Villeneuve crafted a new narrative entirely, not just to honor the film that came before, but to expand on the exploration of human themes present in this particular world.
This put Ryan Gosling at the center of Blade Runner 2049 as Joe/Officer K, who represents an incredible shift in the evolution of people and replicants by being a replicant blade runner who goes around decommissioning his own kind. This brings into question an even deeper element of morality while exploring themes of identity, reality and existentialism in ways that transcend the original 1982 film. How Villeneuve balances his own story with the original is the key to its success. On one hand, he is telling an individual story about Officer K, who is meant to represent the humanity that exists within the replicant community.

En el futuro distópico cyberpunk de 30 años más palante que en la peli anterior, la sociedad está así un poco como las mierdas (bueno, nada nuevo, un poco más sexualizado si tal, no vaya a ser) y ahora el prota es otro poli, pero un poli replicante que es Ken con una tradwife holograma porque no le da para más. Y se jode la vida buscando información de cosas que pueden reventar sistemas.
