Vivaldi nutzt halt leider auch die #Google-Engine #Blink https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blink_(browser_engine) , was dafür sorgt, dass Google eventuell mal das Engine-Monopol hat und das WWW dann so beherrschen, wie es ihnen beliebt. Das wäre der absolute Super-GAU und wohl auch das Ende vom freien Internet.

Das darf man auch nicht vergessen: durch die (indirekte) Wahl der #Browser-Engine entscheidet man sich hier für Google als Machtfaktor.

(FYI: Ich bin am Desktop aktuell hauptsächlich auf #LibreWolf (= #Firefox-Fork) unterwegs.)

Historically, I've been a #Firefox user (I've been using it since the very beginning of the project), but every year I have more and more doubts about the long-term viability of Firefox and I'm starting to think that the ship might sinking. A world with only #Blink and #WebKit browsers will be a sad thing in my book, but it seems most people don't care about having diversity in rendering engines.

As for search - I've played a bit with #DuckDuckGo and #Kagi and they get the job done, but I'm curious what else
people enjoy and why.

It is 2026 and I did not think this would be the year where I though I would switch away from #firefox

I am considering going full #gnome web, but I know there are pages not fully supported or very, very slow.
I don't want to move to a #blink based alternative. There is Floorp, but I don't know enough about it and there is librewolf which I have some issues with on machines.

Any other ideas. Ladybug is sadly not an option for me at the moment.

@cc13com @can Und das Schlimmste: Das Open Banking der Schweiz nennt sich #bLink (https://blink.six-group.com) und kann eigentlich nur von Firmen verwendet werden. Zumindest verstehe ich das so, bzw. ich kann mich als Privatperson nirgendwo einfach registrieren und einen API-Token erstellen oder so. So gesehen wird das womöglich nie mit Open-Source-Tools funktionieren.

Ça fait 20 ans que je fais du #dev #web, ça fait plus de 20 ans que j'utilise #Firefox, Je suis et je resterais un fervent partisan de l'#OpenWeb, tout comme je suis partisan du #libre, parce que c'est ma « philosophie politique ».

#Blink a supplanté #Gecko non pas je pense parce qu'il est meilleur (sauf si des ingés de moteur web me contredisent) mais parce que #Mozilla fait les mauvais choix depuis pas mal d'années.

La thune de l'autre côté (Google) n'explique pas tout.
