Finished Tokyo Noir by Jake Adelstein. A fine book on the yakuza, how they went from being a power people had no choice but to suffer, to a more hidden, recognized criminal, society, as they are now. | nightmodereading.wordpress.com | #bookstodon #yakuza #nosferatureads #readlikeavillain

Finally, someone has noticed that male #authors are disadvantaged in #publishing 🙄
/sarcasm

Cook told The Bookseller: “There has never been an independent publisher that champions literary fiction by men. Which is not to say we won’t publish fiction by women in the future – but the emphasis at first will be on male authors.”

A city at peace in a world at war. ‘The Stockholm Run’ is a fast-paced thriller set in Scotland and Sweden during World War Two. It uses many real settings, transported eight decades back in time.

During the war Dundas Castle, south of Queensferry, was taken over by the RAF and became the headquarters of a barrage balloon squadron defending the Firth of Forth against enemy bombers. It has a key role in the early part of the novel.

The image shows a frontal view of Dundas Castle in bright sunlight, though under dark skies. There’s a long shadow of a tree extending out across the grass in the foreground towards the castle. The front cover of 'The Stockholm Run' is shown in the top left corner.

I hadn't noticed this before - the library seems oddly specific about the borrowing time: 23.4 days?? 🤔

The library self-service terminal, after I borrowed 3 DVDs - it says for each one that it's "Due in 23.4 days"
