I love this sculpture on a wall at the junction of Byres Road and University Avenue in West End of Glasgow. Created in 1993 by Michelle de Bruin and Callum Sinclair, this is the first time I've seen it lit up in a very long time. Known locally as the Sun and Moon Clock, I've always known it (possibly incorrectly) as the Eclipse as it appears to depict a solar eclipse, with the central part representing totality.

Wee Folk Dancing by John Clark. Created in 2008, this mosaic is on the path leading up to the entrance to Òran Mór on Byres Road int he West End of Glasgow. It shows a series of figures engaged in traditional Scottish dancing.

Is there a temperature where it's too cold to stop by the University Cafe on Byres Road in Glasgow for some proper Italian ice cream? If there is, I haven't experienced it yet, and maybe it's never happened in the 107 years since the cafe opened in 1918!

A rather wonderful decorative window in Tennent's Bar on Byres Road in the West End of Glasgow. At least some of its panels were created by Stephen Adam, an influential glass designer and a pioneer of modern stained glass in Scotland. While his work can be found in a number of buildings around the city, this is one of the few that is still in the public realm.

The sign for The Aragon in the West End of Glasgow. Despite the appearance of this sign, it only opened in 1970, making it one of the newer pubs on Byres Road. Before that, it was a Butcher's Shop.

As Glasgow expanded throughout to 19th Century, absorbing neighbouring towns and villages, it wasn't uncommon to find it had ended up with multiple streets with the same name and by around 1890, there were four different Victoria Streets in the city, including one in Hillhead. This no doubt caused some confusion and all four of them were subsequently renamed.

If you look up at one of the tenement buildings on Byres Road in the West End of Glasgow, you'll see it bears the legend Victoria Cross. This seems odd until you find out that when it was built, Byres Road was called Victoria Street.
