The Prickly Pear Cactus started blooming yesterday. Cooler and a lot nicer out today. Got off my duff and cleaned up around the plant. Didn't get it done last year... Pulled out, cut off weeds and grass trying to take over its spot. Fished out a bunch of old leaves and dead material with barbecue tongs.

Only had to remove maybe a dozen little needles from my fingers. I bring the tweezers out along with the gardening tools. They're ALWAYS needed😆

Tried making "Cactus fries" (ie nopales sliced up, rolled in egg, then rolled in flour with salt/pepper). Tasty. Probably will add cayenne next time. Essentially, the cactus is just there for vegetable matter and a slight bit of tang, but not bad for lunch. A way to consume oil and fried dough and call it a vegetable? 🤪 #cactus #food
