People making "retro" videos with a terminal and smooth scroll - bleep that! They belong to the same club as those applying a VHS effect to videos. If you've repaired a few VHS decks, you know very well that isn't a true VHS effect. There are fundamental reasons why the hardware behaves the way it does. As usual, everything affects everything. The same applies to simulated camera views with microprism rings or split-image rangefinders. You can't just "add something" in the middle and think that's it.

Well guess what, guys? My first roll of film is developed.

Fujifilm 200
Canon Rebel 2000 with an 18-70mm lens that's horribly slow

I, love this? I don't know how exactly to express this, but I remember framing up every one of these and knowing the ones that would be winners would be winners. These were the shots I expected to get off of the roll and these were the ones I pushed through #rawtherapee. There's a level of safety and care that goes into knowing each roll of this shit is ~$10 a pop. I messed with exposures and things to my liking a bit as I would any shot from the R8, but I didn't remove a single film grain, it's part of the charm, damnit.

Well, this proves the Rebel is in perfect working order and is ready to shoot and shoot and shoot. That's great considering I paid a whopping $15 for it and it can use EF lenses and that's half of my kit. I can take it, My R8, a 24mm EF lens, a converter, and use them on BOTH the film lens and the R8.

I don't have a 24mm EF lens yet, but bare with me.

>Dad's roll

Isn't at the lab yet, as I wanted to vet LowFive first as well, and since they're good to go, the Rebel is g2g, I guess I'm g2g on shooting film. The Minolta X-700 has a finished roll, and the X-570 has a counter that won't reset. Note, that this doesn't mean it can't shoot and develop film, it just means I won't know when the roll is out until the crank hits tension. I bought the X-570 broken as a hail-mary towards making the X-700 a trophy piece on a shelf I dedicate to my dad. I love the action on the camera and how vivid the viewfinder is, but I need to test film off of it as well. So, the next two rolls will be those two getting tested.

So, this roll was half Thanksgiving with my family, and half out at Reynolda Museum, which I will return to, I just didn't have the time that day and was just trying to test the camera. Here's some shots from Reynolda. Some shot with autofocus, some not. The R2000 doesn't have the most gangbusters viewfinder but it works well enough.

This is a hallway at Reynolda Museum. I liked the lighting in here so I kept this one. When I framed this, I knew I was keeping it. It zigs, it zags, it's soft lighting, it's just nice, and tan, and sepia toned, and lovely. I love film. This red makes me want to die I love it so much. It's so dark, so red. I didn't even touch this one that much. I didn't want to. They sent it like this. This is from part of the museum dedicated to, you guessed it, tobacco and cigarettes. Good old North Carolina. Some berries on a bush outside, close shot with some light bokeh, nice colors on this film, even if I am a few steps down from the film itself on judging color.

My new #camera is pretty nice. Not only is its shutter super quiet and less jarring, there's even a sensor to detect when to switch to the viewfinder based on distance from my face. #photography #photog #olympus

Today I was up early and decided I'd go out in the morning... at 27F. Luckily I got a new hat and a face covering and I was pretty toasty. I went to the Quarry at Grant Park just down the road from Salem lake and went Downtown for a few shots.

I took the Minolta out at Salem lake and got some good shots with it on some Fuji 400. I can't wait to get those back even though I've shot the lake plenty of times, I just have fun with the camera, mostly.

I didn't like my keeps much this time, but I had more fun on the hike. I only kept three, but I do have the film back from around Thanksgiving to go through and there are a few more artsy shots on those as well. Anyway. All for now, tired of the cold, just want it to be spring so I can go out without feeling like I have to "armor up", and there's no colors, really.

A shot of a cafe that had this dude framed, rather literally, in an interesting way.The Quarry at Grant Park, at a very cold time of day, lotta water vapor steaming the photo up. It almost looks like Silent Hill. There's a bunch of locks on the overlook to the Quarry. They made for a fun bokeh shot for some blur.

My dad gave me a bunch of old camera gear which belonged to his dad. He told me I can sell it all but it's just stressing me out! Any advice?

There is one Mamiya 645 with a viewfinder and also a waist level viewfinder attachment. Also four Mamiya lenses. It has some brassing but looks to be in good condition.

There's a bunch of crappy 35mm film cameras which are worth nothing.

Then there's a bunch of really old cameras which I have no idea what they are! Variable condition.

I hope you can see the photo large enough to see what is there.

I am guessing it might be worth trying to sell the Mamiya and lenses separately from everything else? And then maybe sell all the old cameras as a job lot?

Thank you!

A bunch of old camera gear including a Mamiya 645 and lenses, old cameras from different countries and some horrible 35mm point and shoot cameras.

I love my old film cameras, but the one issue with them that is impossible to avoid is that most of them are well over 20 years old. And eventually as much as I love all my old things, they will break.

So I've been looking at some of the newer 35mm cameras coming out. And I decided to pick up this little Kodak Snapic A1. I'll be putting it through its paces over the next little while and seeing how it does. I don't expect this to keep up with something like my Mju, (Stylus) 120, but I'm hoping that it does well enough that I can use it as an every day carry so I don't have to worry so much about damaging my harder to replace cameras.

First impressions are that this is a very small, very light camera. Surprisingly so. It is made of plastic but it doesn't feel flimsy. The auto advance seems to work nicely and there is a small display on the top of the camera that gives you relevant information like how many shots you've used, your current flash mode, (which it remembers through a power cycle! Every film camera should do but a surprising number don't.) and your focus zone.
And yes, this is a manual zone focus camera. Personally I don't like that, but it's a very simple setup. Everything from .5 to 1.5 meters you use the portrait setting, everything farther out landscape. You can basically tell which mode you should use by seeing what's in your frame.
The camera uses 2 AAA batteries, so finding power for it is very easy. And the batteries actually give a little bit of weight to this camera that is welcome.
I'm always interested in new film cameras. I've also been looking at the Lomo MC-A, but the price tag for that is about 4X what this costs, so if I do get hold of that one it's going to be a while.

A photo of the box the Kodak Snapic A1 comes in. It's a nice little package with a photo of the camera on the front of the box. It's sturdy enough it could take a few bumps and the camera inside would be fine. Here are the camera and it's accessories taht came with it. You get the camera it's self, a small black fabric pouch with draw string closure to put the camera in when not in use. A gray rope lanyard long enough to hang the camera around your neck, and a couple small cards that have some basic instructions and QR codes for the quick start guide on the back.A comparison photo with my Mju (Stylus) 120 on the left, and my Snapic A1 on the right. The cameras are very similar in size other than the Mju being a bit thicker front to back.A photo of the Snapic A1 in my hand, showing the size of it. The camera is surprisingly small for something with auto film advance / rewind. Likely due to it's manual zone focus. (it has two zones, close up and far,) .
