Cairngorms Campfire Ban: The CNPA got the nod from the Scottish Government to ban campfires and barbecues in the Cairngorms National Park from next year; a step in the right direction, for sure. You can also use wads of clothing lint from your dryer instead of using leaves for kindling. It's just as flammable, but doesn't blow off in the wind as easily to start fires elsewhere.

Another great #campfire trick is to cut up a thin dinnertable candle into 1-inch pieces, wrap the pieces in wax paper, like candies. 🍬 Use one or two of these, tucked under the larger wood pieces, when starting a fire. They last awhile & light up easily. (In #GirlScouts, we called these "candle kisses.")

The people who bike laps around #ProspectPark and #CentralPark are really on to something. Never thought I’d be that person, but I just rode several laps around Prospect Park this evening and it’s lovely. The #Fall smells of leaves and #campfires fill the crisp air. Best of all you can ride continuously without having to deal with a single #car. Kicking myself for not doing this more often.

I do love #Scouts though, we've been spending a lot of time outside with #campfires lately - singing songs with our Cubs, practising building fires with the older youth members as well as practising our hike cooking!
