A stream of white, frothing water cascades down through a rocky, sunlit gorge. Large boulders, some covered in green moss, line the stream, which is framed by bare branches and sparse undergrowth on either side. Fallen logs also lie across the scene, with the warm, low light of the sun illuminating the water and rocks.

Does anyone out there in the Fediverse know anything about cycling Chinook Pass (Washington SR 410 on the east side of Mount Rainier National Park) before it opens to cars for the season? I believe it has been cleared to the summit from the east. Thinking about checking it out next weekend.

A gently flowing river with small cascades winds through lush green foliage and trees, with glimpses of colorful plants in the background.

Pique nique aujourd'hui en vallée de la Credogne (et on a fini par faire le tour du lac de Saint Rémy, parce que Riri voulait compléter son étude relative aux comportements des canards - l'éthologie, c'est son truc)

On a visité deux cascades, celle du Creux Saillant (qui est répertoriée sur eauvergnat : https://www.eauvergnat.fr/la-cascade-du-creux-saillant ), et une autre, en aval, près du moulin de la Moulière (dont un ami m'apprend à l'instant qu'elle porte le nom de saut de Tavagnat !)

Ciel couvert, un peu frisquette même en fond de vallon (9°C à Saint-Rémy sur Durolle)

Impressionnant cette petite vallée (entre Paslière/Montpeyroux et Saint-Victor-Montvianeix). La forêt est très très humide. Les ruisseaux déboulent de partout. Ça fait un bien fou de voir autant d'eau, quand on se rappelle les séquences de sécheresse de ces dernières années. Y'a de la réserve quand même.. (vous allez me dire, suffit de deux mois sans flotte et ce ne sera pas la même chanson)

On est à quinze minutes de Thiers, et pourtant c'est la campagne profonde là, de la petite route qui serpente et se faufile. Des rochers de granit partout. Le bourg de Saint Victor est minuscule, quelques maisons perchées à flanc de colline, et une secrétaire de mairie qui ne pas voir passer foule quand elle est à son bureau. 5,8 h/km2. Une vaste commune tout en vallons encaissés.

En redescendant depuis Saint Victor Montvianeix, croisé un patou qui faisait la sieste au milieu de la route.
Et.. heu.. c'était pas du tout un patou en fait. Mais la biquette n'a pas bougé d'un centimètre, peinarde 🥳

I often fly around the North Cascades with a pilot friend around sunset. This is one of my favorite views from my last flight. Mount Triumph, close to the Canadian Border, catches dusk light.

It protects well enough, and there's good holds. It's just awkward. I was happy to do this one as a follower :D The first picture is how not to go about it. Instead, you have to go in the crack higher, until you can get a foot on top

Yes, it's not Niagara Falls, but the #IlseFälle #cascade is very pretty to look at and you can #hike along the #Ilse river as it #cascades down 120 metres. Looks like a fairytale #forest – if you ignore all the hikers that flock to this place (just like we did 🤡)
