Catkins on a Salix gracilistyla Mount Aso. The catkins are produced in spring before the leaves.
I moved this shrub a couple of years ago from an area, where it was not doing well. It is meant to grow up to three metres tall but is still tiny, probably on account of its hard start in life.

A nice short walk today in the local woods. Produced a few photostat I liked.

A clump of yellow catkins hanging down from a hazel twig. They are almost open giving us a sign that spring will not be long. There is another smaller unopened bunch further down the twig and more soft focused in the background.
