Still 0–0 here between #CEEuropa and FC Cartegena. We had the ball in the net early on but it was chalked off for hands in the build up. (I didn't see it but VAR did apparently.) It's a big game because winner leapfrogs to second in the table. So far we've definitely been on the front foot; hopefully they can make that count in th second half.

I am going to my first CE Europa (the neighborhood football team) game this evening and I am super excited. Had been meaning to become a member for a few years now and I'm glad to have finally made it happen. I realize that sports is probably not a thing most of my followers are into. But I sincerely believe that supporting and being part of small local community efforts is super important—and that includes sports. Critical theory book clubs do not a community build, at least not on their own. They won their first game of the season last week and this will be the first home game. In fact, it will be the first home game in the 3rd division since ’95! So excitement is running very high. Oh, and did I mention the club plays with explicit politics? They play with an antifa patch on their kit and even have it written into their statutes. So… Europa sempre endavant!

My local (fan owned) team is still trying to raise the money they need to upgrade their facilities. They won their league last year and were promoted so now they need to bring everything up to scratch to compete at this higher level. They have dubbed their campaign «Som La Resistencia» [we are the resistance], highlighting their commitment to neighborhood football against the commercialization (and corruption) of the big game. They have also consistently displayed a commitment to anti-fascist, anti-racist, and feminist values. Someone put up this mural for them too.

My neighborhood football team, CE Europa, just launched a campaign to raise much needed funds. This is a 100% fan owned, local team that plays with explicit anti-fascist/racist/patriarchy/homophobic politics. They need money because both the men's and women's team were promoted to a higher league. That's an amazing achievement but comes with new expenses, both for operations and upgrades to the stadium.

I'm guessing not a lot of my followers on here care about sports all that much. But, this is what the alternative to the fifa/club world cup/sports betting/sports washing/ bull shit money machine looks like. This is sport as community and social fabric.
