A wee walk round Limekilns and Charleston, this was Mrs B's village , born and raised , so loads of tales about childhood shenanigans.
And as strange as it seems these wee picturesque villages , we once an industrial hotspot , with trains, railway and a very busy harbour (now with abandoned sailing boats )

Buck Hall north of Charleston, in McClellanville, a study in gold contrasts. It was low tide at sunset. All the textures were on display, the dock against the water, the tree silhouettes, the dock lit by the fading sunset. Photographed in winter.

The #unitedstates really sucks for long term #nomad travel. I have to be back in the US due to work no longer allowing me to #remotework abroad and I'm trying to plan a route. I thought a good idea would be to take the #amtrack up the east coast bit by bit, but no where has hostels or any kind of non-expensive lodging that isn't car centric (#fuckcars) - and I don't have a car.

#Savannah, GA no longer has a hostel
#Charleston, SC has one with a 7 day limit
Next stop, Fayetteville - no hostel
#Raleigh, NC - no hostel

I suppose that I can look more in to #couchsurfing. I downloaded the app for a bit to take a look around, but I lean more to the people and events you get in hostels. Of course, you can make great interactions with people couch surfing as well.

I may also have to only stay for a few days in places until I get to a city large enough to have some kind of shared, less expensive housing. It really is frustrating. I spent a year and a half in #latinamerica and there was no shortage of #hostel dorms and cheap options for room and board. The US? Nah, fork over $150 per night. Breakfast not included. I feel like that could be the catch phrase of the US, or a good blog title 🤔.

Welcome to America! Breakfast not included.

Grains of Truth: High Wire Distillery’s Jimmy Red Bourbon Redefines Southern Spirits
By James Seidel | CC News Network

CHARLESTON, S.C., — Jimmy Red Bourbon – In a sun-soaked warehouse in Charleston, South Carolina, something special is happening — not just in the bottle, but in the soil, in the history books, and in the hearts of those reviving a nearly extinct red corn varietal with a storied past. Scott Blackwell, co-founder of High Wire Distillery, isn’t just making whiskey — he’s building a movement rooted in agricultural integrity and authentic Southern storytelling.

And it all starts with a grain: Jimmy Red corn.
