Drei unglaubliche Musiker mit so vielen unterschiedlichen individuellen Ansätzen, dass die möglichen Wege, die uns ihre erstmalige musikalische Zusammenarbeit einschlagen könnte, sicherlich unendlich sind. Oren Ambarchi trat bei TUSK 2013 sowohl solo als auch in einem weiteren erstmaligen Trio mit Mick Flower und Neil Campbell auf; er spielte Schlagzeug, Gitarre und Elektronik, zwang uns sogar dazu, den einzigen Lieferanten von Lesley-Lautsprechern im Nordosten ausfindig zu machen, und war einfach durchweg großartig. Wie wir bereits gesagt haben, sorgt Oren jedoch vor allem dann für Begeisterung auf der TUSK-Bühne, wenn er Schlagzeug spielt – sein spartanischer, aber absolut essenzieller Ansatz macht die Platten mit Haino und O’Malley zu dem, was sie sind: Rhythmen, die auf das absolut Notwendige reduziert sind und nichts darüber hinaus. Die vervielfachte Wirkung, dies live und aus nächster Nähe zu sehen, trug nur noch mehr zum Vergnügen bei. Also ja, wir mussten einfach verlangen, dass Oren in diesem Trio Schlagzeug spielt.

Was Chatham und Shalabi betrifft, so ist eine ganze Reihe möglicher Werkzeuge und Einflüsse denkbar, von kanadischem Post-Rock über ägyptischen Shaabi, New York No Wave und knirschende Elektronik bis hin zu endlosen Wiederholungen – wirklich alles ist möglich.
