Tenement chimneys at sunset on Crow Road in the Broomhill area of Glasgow. It's only when you see pictures like this that you realise quite how much smoke would have been produced when the city's tenements were primarily heated by coal fires, and it's no wonder they ended up caked in so much soot and grime that they appeared black rather than the red or blonde of the sandstone underneath.
