Is data-driven learning dead? Long live DDL!
Interesting plenary on learning, ecologies and corpus by Pascual Pérez Paredes @ #CL2025

What a marvelous plenary by Laurence Anthony — a true celebration of past, present, and future in trusting the text. Can’t wait to put the new local #OpenWeighs-powered AntConc through its paces! #CL2025 #TrustTheText

Now at #CL2025, Lei Ye presents #Wordless, a new multilingual tool to annotate your texts into a corpus! Does indeed look tempting, have to try it out. Download and documentation here:

Now at #CL2025, Václav Cvrček and Masako Fidler present the differences between east and west, not through keywords and collocations, but through associations.
Their methods MBA (for text) and Companions are explained in their articles, tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.10 for example.

Sampling the welcome breeze before the afternoon session @cl2025.co.uk Spoilt for choice with seven parallel talks - for me it’s the Methods panel, with talks on children’s storybooks, keyness, and corpus semiotics 📚🎓 #cl2025

Jacqueline Laws uses types3 in her #CL2025 talk on "Neologizing in American and British spoken English: The case of complex verb formation"! Tuesday at 1:30 pm, session 5.2.

Now at #CL2025 @Fabric_Hunter and Niall Curry present how pop sci mag @TheConversationUK have presented both climate and migration crises perspectives. Seems climate reporting has actually been more people-centred with time, but when people need to migrate due to the changing climate, they are often “moving”!

First plenary by @gavinbrookes@bsky.social at CorpusLinguistics 2025 resonates with the project I'll present with @klasronnback and @ljo on Wednesday, talking about how context through metadata is tricky.
Also, corpus linguistics has been criticised for its lack of context, but what about LLMs, in the cases where we don't even know what context it has?

Hi @cl2025.co.uk! Could you encourage #CL2025 attendees to follow @ap.brid.gy so we can connect from #Mastodon and the #Fediverse? Just follow that account — it bridges the gap so we can all chat, share, and have fun across platforms! Let’s make #CL2025 truly connected.

#CL2025 is on!
Robbie Love presents the practicalities, and people are gathering, waiting for this evening's concor-dance 🕺🏽💃🏽
So grateful to the grant funding from Kungliga Vitterhetssamhället i Göteborg that let me go here to present and learn more.

At the opening ceremony of #CL2025 at Aston University. A whole bunch of #CorpusLinguistics professionals here—if anyone can parse a good time, it should be this crowd!

We're much looking forward to a busy #cl2025 for #RC21: workshop on Sunday and presentation on Thursday! (Let's skip the riots, though)

A screenshot of FlexiConc used through a web app. Concordance of "Birmingham" showing common n-grams in literary corpora. The results show that "at Birmingham" is preceded by terms like "outbreak" and "riot", while "to Birmingham" looks more positive.
