Today my child and I got out on our first hike of 2025, on the Wiley Trails. It was drizzling and raining the whole time, but it was awesome to be able to get outdoors again.

Lichen, just as interesting as mushrooms. This one in the sketch, a #cladonia #lichen is on my list to create today. It will be bigger then the real species, since those are on a micro scale. They would be a little hard to see when made to scale. Maybe some day...

Here’s the first moss/lichen-oriented sketch! I often find that ideas come most easily while working on things—just as they did here. While working on the mushrooms and adding dried mosses and lichens, I realized they were just as much a worthy subject as the mushrooms themselves. At the time, moss wasn’t the big trend it seems to be now. It turns out I wasn’t the only one who thought moss deserved more attention!
