You may not know the name of the classical piece "On the Nature of Daylight," but you probably know how it sounds — the composition by Max Richter has been used on the soundtracks of everything from "Stranger than Fiction" and "Shutter Island" to "Arrival." Most recently, it was used for a key scene in "Hamnet." Richter spoke to @IndieWire about his fascination over the piece resurfacing in different contexts.

Realizing I don't particularly care for the recording I have of Dvorak's 9th Symphony.
There isn't anything wrong with it exactly, but it's just kind of... meh. Which honestly? A little bit impressive to be able to make that piece of music feel meh.
So I've placed holds on a few from the library and I'll try them out to figure out which I'd like to purchase.

Now, a more recent recording from 2018. Two top-class personalities joined forces to perform and record Viennese art songs from the turn of the century: the soprano and conductor Barbara Hannigan and the legendary pianist and conductor Reinbert de Leeuw, who died in 2020 after a long illness.

Very grumpy now. Had a rehearsal that was moved (by the violinists) to a venue that was twice as far away, and not comfortable, and they (the two violinists) had unilaterally decided not to use the supplied edition of the music (= different bowings and articulations and no bar numbers, making rehearsing more difficult). And they also seemed not to be very familiar with one of the pieces. Where they did have musical views, they were almost diametrically opposed to mine.
I had been looking forward to this. Sigh.

Iannis Xenakis — sound as architecture, energy, and myth.
Syrmos (1959): A raw, electrifying string piece where glissandi collide and swarm — music as pure sonic physics.
Polytope (1970s): Xenakis’s legendary light-and-sound environments — architecture, lasers, and electronic sound fused into immersive, futuristic ritual spaces.
Medea (1967/68): Fierce, primal, and ritualistic — Xenakis channels ancient tragedy into explosive rhythms and elemental vocal writing.
