I've shot this building a couple times in the past but of all the dozens of times that I have been down here, this is the first time that there wasn't cars, dumpsters, tow trucks, etc., blocking the façade Yay!

Soldiers and Sailors Monument

I dipped in under the monument to get out of the elements and ran into Ray, another bike friend that I haven’t seen in 20 years and now working weekends as a guide. I’ve been down here before but this was the first time with the lighting and the place open for visitors.

Clark + Quigley Avenues

The best part of the Clark Fields redo was the entranceway on the north side of Clark Hill, just west of Quigley. This area was an eyesore for as long as I can remember. It was a huge empty lot consisting of broken cement, asphalt, and stone.

Clark + Quigley Avenues May 28, 2023 . The best part of the Clark Fields redo was the entranceway on the north side of Clark Hill, just west of Quigley. This area was an eyesore for as long as I can remember. It was a huge empty lot consisting of broken cement, asphalt, and stone. The city filled in the lot with dirt and created a rolling hill that has a nature preserve feel. Some parts of the fill are 25 feet high and hide the impound lot nicely. I walked back along the access trail, which I guess the cops use to make sure no one is up to no good or trying to break into the impound lot. I was immediately warned by various birds that this was their area and to not disturb their young. I also saw some bunnies and what looked like a coyote paw print. The BW photo is a city survey photo showing the fill of that hill using fill from Union Terminal when the Terminal Tower was being built. That fill was used in many other areas of the city as well. The snip from the 1898 ArcGIS historical map shows a horse track and grandstand where the impound lot now sits.
