I wrote this as a comment on Robert Reich's article in the Guardian today. The Guardian shut down comments before I could post it.

Trump is the fascist leader of the largest economy in the world.
Fascism is the preferred form of government of neo-liberal capitalism as it creates a system of total control over a population and the environment.

Humanity must destroy neo-liberal capitalism and its fascist political wing. The survival of humanity and the survival of life on earth depends on it.

The political leaders of other countries around the world are doing all they can to appease and bargain with Trump. History clearly tells us that you cannot appease and bargain with fascists. Total warfare is the only way to destroy fascism and neo-liberalism.

The last time this was carried out it cost millions of lives. This time destroying neo-liberalism and fascism will result in the deaths of **BILLIONS**.

All out war in the 21st century will make the wars of the last century look like two 5 year olds squabbling in a sandpit. All out nuclear, biological and chemical warfare could sterilize the earth of all life. If humanity avoids the apocalypse "conventional" modern warfare is incredibly __efficient__ at destroying lives, infrastructure, ecosystems and whole human societies.

Even if the neo-liberal capitalists / fascists carry on unchecked billions will still die or be forced to become refugees in the climate catastrophe, ecosystem collapse, pollution and all the other crises neo-liberalism has created. Neo-liberal capitalism needs fascism to "make the refugees go away". Ever wonder why Trump and other right wing politicians like Starmer whip up hate for refugees?

While all this is going on the techbro billionaires will be hunkered down in their bunkers under New Zealand eating MREs and watching the live streamed apocalypse. They will declare themselves the winners.

May any gods or goddesses there may be look down favorably on us all. Jesus fucking wept etc.

The irony of invading countries for the we really really can't afford to burn.

The world is divided into three groups: those in need, who are already suffering and losing homes and livelihoods; those driven by greed, who profit from delay and denial; and those who claim to care, but hide behind endless excuses for inaction. Meanwhile, the clock keeps ticking.

I just logged into LinkedIn. (Yes, I do have Fear Of Missing Out.) I had to log out again after just three minutes, it was too much AI boosterism. (And that although I already unfollowed every AI bro, but my feed is still flooded with "sponsored posts" that I can't get rid off.)

The least annoying post during that 3 minute session was this:

Some CEO claimed that, in Finland, they build AI data centers underground and repurpose their waste heat to warm about 100,000 homes. It get's below -30 °C in Finland. Sounds like a good solution, at first thought, doesn't it? It's not, though.

From where does the electricity come to power these AI data centers? From coal and/or gas plants? If so, then congratulations, you're essentially burning coal to provide warmth to households, and as a side product you get AI capabilities. When you could instead have provided the warmth much more cost-efficiently and in a way that is much less harmful to our habitat and future, by using heat pumps instead of burning fossil fuels.

And that CEO was bubbling over with excitement that Microsoft and other exploitative corporations are getting in on that action and doing this for Sweden and other countries too.

So, essentially, same story as always: the fossil fuel industry keeps destroying our planet and now they're green-washing their actions in a new way.

#AI Researcher: Boss, see what I invented! It can chat, speak, draw, search the web, write poems, letters and code!

#Oligarch: Cool! What will it take for it to make insane profits for me?

AIR: It's not ready yet, boss! In its present form, it will need datacenters that consume the entire nation's power output, accelerate #ClimateCatastrophe, cause widespread #unemployment and require everyone's #PersonalData.

Oli: Alas! If that is the sacrifice I must make for progress, then so be it!

The destruction of food supplies by crop pests is being supercharged by the climate crisis, with losses expected to surge.

The world was lucky to have so far avoided a major shock and was living on borrowed time, with action needed to diversify crops and boost natural predators of pests.

According to a report in the Guardian "56000 thousand people control three times the wealth of the bottom 50% of humanity".

That isn't many people at all. 56000 people would fill a largish sports stadium. Of course many of these people already own a largish sports stadium and the team that plays in it.

Humanity is just the hired help for these people. Practically anything and everything we do generates income for these people. They don't have to lift a finger to "earn" that money either.

Once the climate catastrophe really kicks into gear and most of the Tropics and low lying coastal lands become uninhabitable billions of people be forced to become climate refugees. No country in the world can cope with that. The world economy cannot cope with the current level of climate breakdown. It will collapse and disintegrate and we probably don't have long to wait for that to happen. Its already starting after all.

The billionaire class rely on the world economy and nation states monopoly on on the use of violence for its very existence.

They will do anything they can to survive the apocalypse. However...

**The billionaires and trillionaires wont fuck off to Mars "to keep the flame of humanity burning".**

There are a few reasons for this that I can see.

1) its incredibly dangerous compared to a cozy bunker in New Zealand, a private Hawaiian Island or a well equipped mega-yacht.
2) Any wise billionaire already has a bunker etc. Probably more than one.
3) These people can never agree on *anything* They are not caring, sharing types and not known for cooperating. If they were we wouldn't be in this mess
4) Its easy to maintain your privilege sitting in a bunker watching Friends on DVD and eating MREs. Basically you have all you need to stay alive as long as you can in your bunker.

If the billionaires do go to Mars that would just be the start of their problems.

1) who would be in charge? You need a command structure to survive on a planet hostile to human life. Again these people are notorious for being psychopaths and sociopaths. Every individual billionaire would want to be in charge.
2) Even if one person was in charge how would this be enforced? My guess is the trillionaire in charge would take a bunch of weapons and a lot ammunition that no one else has access too. They would simply murder anyone who opposed them and enslave everyone else.
2a) Firearms in space or a habitation on Mars are a really bad choice for a weapon in this situation. Putting a hole in a structure exposed to the vacuum of space or the atmosphere of Mars would be a really bad thing. Even the most psychopathic billionaire is going to think twice about trying to enslave hundreds or thousands of people using cutlery.
3) If I can work this out then any billionaire with a brain can too. I can't see a billionaire wanting to be a slave to a someone holding a big knife. Especially if they know that they would be worked to death on a dead planet. A nice concrete bunker and a mountain of baked beans has to be the better option.
4) Despite what they continually claim billionaires are not amazing engineers. They are certainly not plumbers. You need vast numbers of experts in many fields to build a habitat enabling people to live on Mars.
4a) Transporting these people to Mars makes things exponentially more costly even for billionaires. Bunkers are literally a bargain basement investment compared to massive spaceships and living on Mars.
4b) The whole slavery system becomes impossible to enforce. The billionaires might control the weapons but the engineers would control the oxygen and plumbing.
4c) The engineers and plumbers are not stupid either. No one will sign up to be enslaved by a maniac with a knife.

**The (slightly) good part**

All the wealth these 56000 people control is entirely virtual. Even if they are sitting on literal piles of gold bars and gemstones in their bunker in the disintegrating world outside the bunker their "wealth" is meaningless. Gold is just a dense, soft, shiny metal and gemstones are just sparkly rocks.

**The really bad part**

I think the best we can hope for is that these 56000 people die a lonely death in their bunkers while the rest of us do what we can to help one another. However once nation states start to break down all bets are off.

I am sure the world's chemical and biological weapons would come out to play alongside nukes in this situation. Of course AR15s. AKs and the like are weapons of mass destruction too. Weapons like swords and axes were weapons of mass destruction for millenia and they might well be be again in the future if we don't do *something* and do it **NOW**

We are fucked. May what ever gods and goddesses there may be look down kindly upon us, Jesus fucking wept. etc.

Sri Lanka unveils cyclone aid plan as rains persist

Disaster-hit #SriLanka has unveiled a major compensation package to rebuild homes damaged by a deadly #cyclone, even as the island prepared on Saturday for further #landslides and #flooding.

The government has confirmed 611 deaths, with another 213 unaccounted for and feared dead, in what President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has called the country's most challenging natural #disaster.

The Disaster Management Center (#DMC) issued fresh landslide warnings in several areas of the worst-affected Central Province, with the northeast monsoon gathering over the island and bringing more rain.
