A side-by-side collage featuring two environmentally-themed street art pieces. On the left, HIJACK's mural "Make Earth Green Again" shows a man kneeling and painting vibrant green foliage onto a wooden fence, blending the natural environment into the artwork. On the right, Pejac's "The World Going Down the Drain" in Santander, Spain, depicts a black silhouette of the world map flowing into a storm drain painted on a white concrete surface, symbolizing environmental degradation. Both pieces highlight humanity's impact on nature and the urgent need for ecological action.

I am pleased to share one of my recent artworks, "Red Line Midden." This 16 x 12-inch piece is created using a mix of acrylic, oil, and bone china on cradled birch panel.

The inspiration for this piece comes from the winter storms that uncover over 4,000 years of Indigenous history. The painting invites viewers to hold space for remembrance, observation, and action, drawing attention to these middens. The red line symbolizes the impacts of climate change, and the broken bone china represents the European settler culture, highlighting the layers of exposed shells along the shores of the southwest coast of Canada.

I hope "Red Line Midden" resonates with you and encourages reflection on the importance of acknowledging our history and the impacts on our environment.

Watercolour painting of a cabbage white butterfly flying through a forest fire at night. The butterfly is pale and the background is very dark. The fires are suggested in the background under a haze of granulating indigo pigment. A terrifying predicament for a tiny delicate creature.Close-up on the butterfly, we can see the veins in its wings and the delicate legs and antenna. DEFIANCE!" oil on canvas, 50x50cm

This portrait represents the strength, urgency, and heartache of the climate justice movement. A young activist stands steadfast amidst a world on the brink. Her face radiates defiance, her dignity undiminished as she fights for a future that seems to be slipping away.

The vibrant oranges in the background, laced with haunting hints of red and blue, evoke a world on fire, reflecting the climate crisis we face. The figures and crumbling buildings at the bottom of the painting whisper a stark warning - we must act now, or face the consequences.

Just like Vermeer's 'Girl with a Pearl Earring', she wears a blue scarf - a symbol of hope in a seemingly hopeless situation. She is a beacon of resilience in the face of adversity, a symbol of the global south bearing the brunt of a crisis they did little to cause.

This is a call to action, a wake-up call to the world. We must defy apathy, defy dismissal, defy destruction. Together, we can turn the tide.
