Another piece of ancient #history for #Caturday! 😸 This #drawing (also called a #graffiti) of a #cat can be found in the #Cloisters of #SalisburyCathedral. It may have been made by a Durch prisoner of war in the late 17th century. There are several graffitis all over the #church, you can even take a tour to see them. (I didn't but stumbled across this fellow by chance)

A slightly low-angle shot focuses on a weathered grey stone slab in the foreground, upon which a simple, etched drawing of a small quadruped, possibly a cat, is visible. For #FensterFreitag here are the cloisters at Chichester Cathedral. I worked a couple of minutes walk from here for several years so my lunchtimes to get away from the desk would quite often either involve the cathedral buildings and its gardens, or the precinct centre, always with camera in hand for anything of interest.

$A black and white photo with fairly high contrast lending a lot of depth to the shadows. We're standing in medieval cloisters, against the right hand wall and looking down the length of the walled-in area of this religious building as it stretches diagonally from bottom left up to the right. The long wall we're looking at is punctuated by large gothic windows, each at least two metres across at the base, and over that in height, and each broken up into smaller, tall gothic-arched window sections framed with stone columns: four along the bottom, two sets of two smaller above, then a single set of two at the high point of the main frame. The walls comprise smaller stones set in concrete at the bottom, topped with larger blocks of stone above. Through the nearest arch we can see a tiny fraction of the grounds beyond. Light comes from two open doorways in the wall to our right. We can't see the doorways but can see the shafts of sunlight that stretch across the flagstones on the floor and hit the far wall at an angle, almost appearing as bright gravestone markers against the dark surroundings. Deep shadows hide the ceiling from view and the far end of the cloisters is lost in blackness. It feels cool, shaded, and quiet here.$
