I'm kind of shocked the movie was released as-is with this color grading lmao the blood is straight up orange even in most of the goriest scenes it just looks silly

Movie is good though, I like it. Shots of the monster were well done, found footage stuff is pretty well justified. Acting isn't *amazing* but it works. They feel like Just Some Assholes like they should

What I can only assume was product placement is hilarious in this movie, big halted shots on a Mountain Dew sign as the crew treats violent injuries and a shot with a Sephora store sign for a full minute after a major character died

...I HOPE they're product placements lol they're too awkward not to be right??

What really connects the Cloverfield universe?

Tonight's movie was The Cloverfield Paradox (2018).

Let me get the positive things about the movie written upfront:

• Gugu Mbatha-Raw is the best thing about the film.
• The score by Bear McCreary is incredible. Listen to it on your favorite music service, it's so worth it.

I streamed this movie when it originally came out seven years ago and rated it 4 out of 10. Some of my original non-spoiler notes about the movie:

There are too many tracking shots of the crew running through the halls.

Does Daniel Bruhl do anything other than "intense"?

What was 3D printed on the station was just stupid. How would the item even work?
	
Why is it that everyone spoke English and understood Chinese, but the one Chinese astronaut could understand English and only spoke Chinese?
	
Was it as bad as the internet said? Not really. It's just a bit boring and a lot of derivative.

The monster aspect of the film did not fit well at all.

I thought to myself tonight, maybe I'll give this movie another chance so many years later, maybe I'll understand and enjoy it more.

Nope. It's still a mess.

Though, the bolted on last frames of the movie, while obviously not part of the original script, is still quite impactful.
