On 10 October the #EpiscopalChurch commemorates #VidaDuttonScudder (1861-1954) an educator, writer, lesbian, & activist in the #SocialGospel movement. A professor of literature at Wellesley College from 1892-1927, she was also a founder of Dennison House (a women’s settlement house) & the Episcopal Church Socialist League as well as an organizer of the Federal Labor Union. After retiring from teaching, she extensively studied Franciscans & publishing a book in 1931 established her as a leading Franciscan scholar of the time. She also received an LLD degree from Nashotah House in 1942.
