Examples: - My futon’s basically a transformer that gave up halfway through puberty. - The futon says ‘guest bed,’ but it feels more like a punishment for visiting. - My futon has two settings: back pain and buyer’s remorse. Exercise: The Furniture We’ve Known and Endured Examples: - Your childhood couch that’s seen more drama than cable news. - A recliner that’s basically a family member at this point. - The dresser that hides secrets, socks, and shame. Cat on a nasty futon with bananas.

Examples:

Menus from take-out restaurants when all I do is order from Über Eats.

A broken chain, knotted, that I swore I would straighten out someday, like my life.

All of the dried-up pens that I stole from work. . Exercise: Personify your trash can. Allow it to judge you or give you unsolicited advice.
 Examples: 

You say you’re decluttering, but you just moved it to recycling like a coward.

I don’t stink. What you are smelling is the truth that you don’t want to face.

Compost is just a hippy word for rotting vegetables.



(If the exercise does not spark joy, use the idea of trash as an inspiration for jokes.)
