City of Raleigh Government Event Guide – Sunday September 28th Edition

Looking for a meaningful cultural experience in Raleigh this weekend? Join the SEEK Raleigh public art project, Ciba Punch 女拳手打糍粑, on Sunday, September 28, 2025, from 3–5 p.m. at Dorothea Dix Park. This participatory performance, led by the Chinese Artists and Organizers Collective (CAO), brings the traditional process of making ciba (糍粑 – steamed sticky rice cakes) into public space.

The project highlights food as a living archive for community connection, cultural exchange, and movement building. Participants will take part in pounding steamed sticky rice while channeling emotions like love, grief, and resilience into the shared labor of food-making. “Spiritual Figures” will also move through the performance space, guiding participants with humming and breathwork, honoring queer/feminist ancestors and future generations.

All are welcome to participate. Sanitation gloves will be provided, though please note that the rice cakes are not prepared under regulated food safety conditions, so consumption is at your own discretion.
