One of the cool things about long-distance, ground-based travel with the #foldingbike is that you can get up to some quite random excursions when you have some time to kill.
I am on my way back from #ecprgc25 in Greece and after arriving in Ancona, Italy by ferry, I had about four hours to kill.
On the map I saw a "Garibaldi Fortress" on a hill overlooking Ancona, which sounded pretty cool. So I went for a little ride. The fortress was definitely not in a state Garibaldi would have approved of 😅, but the cool thing was that I found an enjoyable bit of gravel to explore around Ancona in the process. I really like to explore these spaces just beyond the city, they are often very interesting assemblages of beautiful and mundane, lively and strange places.

Sum up of my #ConferenceTravel:
Distance travelled: 4394 km
Duration: 32 and 26 hours respectively. Due to (too) generous planning my arrivals were only delayed by 32 and 4 min respectively. 2,5 hours for changes between night and connecting trains seem to be enough.
Costs: 790 € for all #train tickets (1st class).
If I had gone by flight, costs were at ca 720 € for tickets (economy) plus an extra night at a hotel before the flight home. Thus, a little time but no money saving.
I am back home at the shores of the Bothnian Sea. We arrived in time after a quiet train ride. Even on Swedish Intercity trains coffee and tea are included in 1st class tickets which is a nice service to have.
I used the time on that last #train to fill in passenger rights claim forms for both German and Swedish railways. While the Swedish was submitted online, I still had to do paper work for the German railway.
I appreciate the possibility to rebook #train tickets with shortest notice. Swedish long distance trains are subject to reservation. If you choose a rebookable or refundable ticket fare, you can change your connection until the time of departure which gives you quite a flexibility. No extra fees are charged. If rebook to a cheaper train, the difference will be refunded. If the new train is more expensive, you have to pay the difference.
One of the stations with the most amazing views I know is situated about 15 min south of Stockholm. The station is bridging the mouth of Lake Mälaren where it meets the Baltic Sea.
We arrived at Stockholm main station two hours late. However, as I had planned with a generous break, I was able to rebook the last stage of my journey to an earlier #train. This means I will be home one hour earlier!
After a good night's sleep Småland welcomes us with sunshine. I already got some exercise as I had to walk from the back to the front of the #train to fetch breakfast. It's a real weekend treat including not only chheese, granola and juice but als pancakes!
